i ~ E o 00 O"l Ted Leimbach struggles to repair his bike on Day Two. Qualifier hosted by th e Mt. Baker M.e. Team Kawasaki continued their rec ent domination of the sm a ll- bo re classes as Dane Leimbach took his third straight 125cc win , and J ack Penton walloped the 175cc class , winning by over 100 points (seconds). The two rid ers listed as fastest at th e end of Day One - Suzuki's Jeff Fredette and Kawasaki's Ted Leimbach - both had t hei r share of tro ubles on Da y Two . Fredette's chain broke twice , u ltima tely costing him 660 route points and dropping him to 10th in the 250cc class . Leimbach fa red even wors e, as t ra il rid ers going backwards on the course for ced h im off the trail a nd into a big hole, where he broke th e bike' s triple clamp and bent the steering stem . T ed was not hurt . Mileages for th e two days totalled 161 on Saturday and 150 on Sunday. Ra in hit the area late Saturday aft ernoon a nd Sunday morning, Lut was no t a major factor . Ninety-seven started the event. Suzuki's Mike Rosso . des p ite riding with a leg still sore from an accident before the Michigan round , fini shed second in the 175cc cla ss and won his seventh gold medal of the yea r. No other rider has won a go ld in every event of the series . Day O n e Three special tests were scheduled for the first day: two grass tra cks and a motocross final test . T he grass track was la id out in a fresh field of wet , shin -high grass. In a cha nge o f pa ce mo ve , th e 250cc class sta rt ed fir st (followed by the 500 s, 125s and 175s) and Leimbach a nd Fred ette were among the first to hit t he course , and they ha d th e fast est tim es of the morning, with J eff edgi ng T ed by fou r seco nds . T he firs t grass track was t he last sto p for Husqvarna rid er A .C. Bakken , plagued by bad lu ck through much of the seaso n . Plasti c chips from his gas tank got stuck in the ca rb ure tor a nd A .C . lost too much time to make it worthwhile to continue. T he sch edule set up by the club had most riders hitting the checks 5- 10 m inu tes early, with the exce p tion of th e third check where most rid ers arrived a ha lf ho ur before their scheduled time . T his was because the seco nd check crew didn't get there in time and rid ers d idn't have to wait there . The motocross final test was held on the cl ub 's Hannegen track, and featured a combination of the regular course and some m inicycle course sections. Order Now To Save Freight!
