They let their young r iders chase each other around in the Mini and l OOc c class a nd wh en they ge t too fast for that , th ey unlea sh th em on a n unsuspecting 125cc class. The first ·indication of their p la n was di sclosed at the start of th is season when Brian Luedke show ed up at th e track with a new 125 . W e soon lea rned what th ese gu ys ha d u p their sleeves . Brian wen t out a nd devastated the co m petitio n week after week: The new est Atwood Demolition Team wasted no tim e in showing th e home cro wd who was boss. Da vid Gr een show ed how fa st he co u ld adjust to a 125 by grabbing the holeshot and pulling away for the first Junior moto win . The othe r half of the ADT . Brian Luedke, held up his part of the action by holding down second. The first non-Atwood rider was Kurt Ross . who mov ed up to third after a first lap fall had dropped him to seventh. In the second moto, the Atwood Demolition Team continued to blow everybody off. Green and Luedke ran off and h id from the rest of the pack to fini sh in . the sa me order as th e first time around . Ross was able to st ay on his bike long enough to fin ish third ahead of Dan Heller and Wayne Lanning. In the 100cc class. Dave H orinek continued to show his skills as he won both rn otos over Chad Budke and moved a step closer to joining the ADT. The Atwood Demolit ion Team farm club had a good day with Jonathan Pancake and Jason Jumper sweep ing the Mini Junior class. The 250cc Juniors p rovided a cha nge for the cro wd by sho wing that someone not from Atw ood co u ld lead a race . Kurt R oss powered a borrowe d Kaw asaki int o the lead but was quickly displ aced by Virus Meier. Rich Dozbaba ga ve the two leaders a run for th e m on ey. follow ed by Stan Haines and Vic Goeken. Positi ons stayed the same until the wh ite flag ·when Ross; pull ed, .. off the track to reattach his fue l line and everyone moved up a pos ition . T he secon d moto saw Meier gra b the lead ea rly a nd motor on to the win. Ro ss go t his fuel line to sta y on lon g eno ugh to fini sh secon d . wit h Rich Dozbaba in thi rd . Tom Kuhl once again dom ina ted the ac tion in the 250cc Sen ior class by running away with both rnotos. The res t of the field p roved to be a n incon sistent lot. Jesse W essels would up sec ond over all with a 2-4 performance . "Dyna m ite" Dan Hoover crashed in t he first rn oto a nd fin ish ed six th. bu t ca me b ack with a seco nd place in the final moto for thi rd overa ll. Kevin W ayoner ende d th e day in fou rth followed by Dick ·DeW ester a nd Bob Bums. The Atwoo d Demolition T ea m swept ba ck into ac tio n for the Open Junior class . Alan Warta put it to th e rest of the class in front of his hometown crowd and swept both motos, Second place both rnotos went to J erry Clason who was chased to the line both tim es by Jerry Jones. McCook, Nebraska's Bob Bums had his timing down as he grabbed the holeshot in the first Open Senior rnoto, chased by Mark Budke. Dan Hoover , Jesse Wessels and Larry Blecha . Hoover displaced Budke for second on lap two and took out after Burns. By the white flag "Dyna mi te Dan" had closed the gap to three seconds, but Burns held on for the moto win . Mark Budke held on for third with Wessels fourth and Blecha fifth. Hoover didn't want to dispute over who was fastest so he grabbed the hol eshot and pulled away from the hungry pack for the second moto win and fir st overall . Burns motored in seco nd with Budke.
