Due to the extremely large number of candidates running for office, and due to the relatively meager budget resources of CORPAC, the Directors have declined to make formal endorsements. as such, for the June elections. However, the COR PAC researchers have prepared a list of candidates who are generally r.egarded as good ORV voters. and are worthy of support by recreationists. The following list of " favorable" candidates only comprises those primary election contests in which there are more than one candidate, and in which we were able to obtain sufficient information to make a choice. CORPAC wishes to remind readers of this list that these recommendations are for the primary elections only, and these individuals may not be the endorsed candidates in November. This is true in many cases where an incumbent is running unopposed in the primary for his party, although the opposing party may' have a candidate whom we favor now running in that party's primary. CORPAC will evaluate all of these races again after the June primaries and will undergo a very thorough screening process. 3rd Assembly DIstrIct (Extreme northern California): In the Republican primary Robert Graham has given us strong indications of support for ORV use. 5th Assembly DIstrict (Sacramento): Stephen Franks. running in the Democratic contest. has previously supported ORV bills in the legislature. 6th Assembly DIstrict (Sacramento): We are not impressed with either candidate in the Democrat primary, except that the incumbent, Leroy Greene, has been a fairly good vote for us. Challenger Joan Reiss is an avowed Sierra Clubber. We advise Greene. 7th Assembly DIstrict (Amador, Mono, EI Dorado and San Joaquin Counties): Incumbent Norm Waters has usually gotten behind motorcycle bills. J5th Assembly DIstrict (East Bay, Uvermore areal: Incumbent Royd Mori has helped get one very good bill through his committee and has supported us on others, so we say "Go with MorL" 21st Assembly District (Santa Cla~ County): Greg Morris, a Republican challenger in this vacant seat. is a genuine off-road enthusiast. one of our best bets. 25th Assembly District: Democratic incumbent Alister McAllister has authored legislation which would open new trails to ORV use. 26th Assembly DIstrict: In the Republican race, Doug Carter has given an absolute committment to support ORV bills. In the Democratic primary, incumbent Carmen Perino has been supported in the past ... at one point he started to waver until we reminded him. We can work with him. The district is located in the Stockton-Delta area: 35th Assembly District (around Santa Barbara): There is a good horse race in the Republican primary. Both candidates in the Republican primary are good, The incumbent. Gary Hart. is one of the worst ORV votes in the Assembly and will be a prime target in November. 38th Assembly DIstrict: In the Republican primary. Carl Olson is a good friend of off-roaders ... he came to us and asked us to help him, it's the least we can do. District is in the Malibu, Thousand Oaks and San Fernando Valley area . 40th Assembly District lin the San Fernando Valley): Democrat incumbent Tom Bane has supported ORV bills in the Assembly and often asks our friend Assemblyman Bob Hayes about these bills before voting. In the Republican primary Dolores Lefevre. , 43rd Assembly District (Los Angelesl: Anyone has to be better than Howard Berman. We like William Kurdi. 44th Assembly District (Santa Monica): In the Democratic contests, Marty Wentzman is better than Mel Levine. 47th Assembly DIstrict (south central Los Angeles): Mitchell Shook in the Democratic primary is a member of Dirt Diggers M.C. Need we say more? 50th Assembly DIstrict: Curtis Tucker has been good to us. 53rd Assembly District: In the Democratic primary for this Gardena area district. Dick Royd has helped ORV issues for many years. 55th Assembly DIstrict: Los Angeles incumbent Richard Alatore has been OK with us. Support him in the Democratic primary. 60th Assembly District: Support incumbent Democrat Sally Tanner. This district is in the EI Monte area. She has a top ORV voting record. 66th Assembly District: Incumbent Democrat Terry Goggin has continuously given us trouble. He has no primary opposition; we are suggesting that those riders who live in his west San Bernardino/ Fontana district write the name of Louis McKey, "Phantom Duck of the Desert." on your ballot. The Duck lives in the district .. . maybe a protest vote will wake Goggin up. In addition to the above, we have a few Senate recommendations: 7th Senate District (East Bay areal: Democrat Dan Boatwright helped us when he was in the Assembly. 19th Senate District (San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Thousand Oaks areal: Republican Assemblyman Robert Cline has helped ORV bills, is on the state ORV advisory committee and deserves a promotion to the Senate .. . let's really get behind this guy. 39th Senate District (San Diegol: Assemblyman Jim Ellis is running in the Republican race .. . he has always been a friend. We have one County supervisorial race which interests us as well. In the Los Ange les County race M ike Antonovich will be a much better friend than Bax ter Ward. 3
