finish . Second place was well contested,
however, as Pedro Pe rales kept control
'til about mid-moto when Keith Davis
(Hon) of Austin . TX took control with
"Bu llet" Ben Theriot (H on) on his ta il.
Theriot moved into second on lap five
but stepped off in a specta cu la r tumb ling crash which forced a DNF. Pizzitola
took the win . Da vis earned second and
Karl Jordan (Yam). Wendell Simmons
(Kaw) and Mike Clement (Suz) rounded out the top five.
Dale Storbeck holeshot the Min i
Minis on an E.C . Birt Yamaha but got
passed by Ronnie Tichenor , the m ini bike ace from Palm Harbor, FL, on a
Cycle Springs Yamaha in the first lap.
The next seven laps had Storbeck in
Tichenor's shadow to the fin ish line ,
with Storbeck never letting up and
onl y a second be hind the leader at the
finish.
Danny Storbeck went from the lead
to last in the Minibike Stock class as he
ho leshot the start but fell in turn two .
Todd Bray (Ya m) copped the lead
with Bo Pendley (Yam), Larry Brooks
(Hon) and Shane Sitton (Ya m) chomping a t his rear fender. Pendley gave up
second to Mark Knowles on the white
flag lap. Jerry Howell, riding a Mini
from Suzuki of Pensacola was ninth on
the first lap , but continued to improve
his position to fin ish fourth. Howell
caught my eye as he rocketed past th e
" Bosch Bumps" on th e fast and
smooth outside line and radiused th e
foll owing turn around the pe rimeter
berm. slingshotting him int o the
whoop section. T hey finished : Bray,
Knowles, Pendley, Howell and Brooks.
Keith Oelerich had control of the
250cc Expert situation on an RPM
Yamaha as he led from start to fin ish .
Pedro Pe rales. J r. (Suz), Ben Therio t
(H on) a nd James W elch (Hon) were
among the leaders off the start, but
Oel erich p ulled a two-second lead as
Perales d ropped to third early. After
Theri ot pic ked u p second place on lap
one. no position ch anges occurred to
the fin ish . Mickey Pizzitola (Yam) of
Houston took fif th .
