Max Swiuer, Cotton Guio, Morris Newman and Adrian Nebeker - finish the event after 150 started. and it took J.N. six hours and 45 minutes to do it . Poor marking. along with the rough terrain. held down the finisher rate. Giacomo Agostini won the French round of th e 500cc World Road Racing Championship Series, whil e Rod Gould scored the 250cc GP win after reigning champion Ke1 Carruthers bailed off. without inju ry. . Dave Aldana (BSA ) came back. from a crash in a semi race to win the m ai n event at Ascot's weekly half mile . catching Gene Romero (Tri) coming ou t of the final tum. Don Emde (Tri) took the Amateur win, while AI Baker (Yam) bested the Novices after Kenny Roberts' Suzuki quit on th e last lap. Romero came back to take the TT race the following night with Terry Dorsch and Roberts pick.ing up the Amateur and Novice wins. respectively. Mike Patrick and the new 360cc Yamaha took the overall win in the Victors M.C . AMA D-37 hare and hound at Red Rock . Rick Shirey (Bul) and Tom Smith (Hus) rounded out the top three. while Mike Mulconery (Hus) was top Novice and Jack Morgan won the Trailbike class on a Hodaka, In speedway action , R ick Woods kep t his Scratch main event string at Costa Mesa ali ve with his fourth straight win . and Ifi-yea r-old Lea Chankey won the Handicap main event. Joe Anderson was the second division winner over Steve Gresham and Scott Autrey. I t was announced tha t BSA's John Banks would be out of action for four months follow ing knee surgery. Sears Point International Raceway was closed by its owners, Filmways, Inc., .after th ey lost $300 .000 in 10 months. Carl Crank,e won the 250cc Expert main event at the Sac ramento Two Wheelers' second short track of the season.
