APR. 26 This year's Fools Gold Enduro was a classic in every sense of the word and being part of the California Golden State Enduro Championship Series, showcased a program that all of northern California and especially CERA (North) can be proud of. Dave Bertram, riding a Husky for Nelson Bros. Honda, lost 11 points to nose out Eddie Diaz on a Carls Motors Yamaha with 12.49S points for the overall and Open A win . Can-Ammounted Tom Webb of Team Kolbe was third overall and Open A with 12.510 points. At this writing. Dave and Tom are locked in a struggle for the State Championship sponsored by Malcolm Smith Products, Hi -Point Accessories , Countdown Engineering and Torsten Hallman Products. In the B classes: the name to watch this day was E. Angle who lost 24 points on a 175. This score was well below the rest of the field . The best C score was turned in by Open rider S. Wheeler at llS points. Charlie Morgan's llS points got him the Old Timers A win while C. Beetie and D. Munson took the Band C victories. respectively. The weatherman co-operated by pro· viding some rain early in the week then stopping it in time to make trail and traction conditions ideal. CERA lay out crews then did their part by putting on a technically correct enduro and some of the greatest trails ever put together. One complaint was voiced by southern Californian Jerry Counts, though. who asked why there were no sneaky checks. Much of the trail was cut out of manzanita which simply does not let go once it gets hold of you . Tom Webb reportedly went down more than once when he got too close to those farreaching bushes. One section of d ie course took riders in front of a good spectator area and provided the hot dogs with a place to get loose, too loose on more than one occasion. Three sections had averages that were not attainable and were long enough to spread the scores somewhat.
