National Terry Poovey, Jay Springsteen and St eve Moreh ea d were at th e head of the pa ck through turn o ne with Steve Eklu nd displacing Moreh ead at the ot her en d of the track for third as Sp ringer took over th e lead. Bu t Bu bb a Sh obert had gone down in th e second tu rn and the red flag wen t out as officia ls d ragged Sh obe rt off th e tr ack before the pack rou nd ed the corn er aga in . Shobert was OK , though. On th e rest a rt , Springer took the lead immed iat ely with Morehead and Labrie in his wak e. While Springsteen was stretching h is lead a bi t, Labrie m oved past Mor eh ead , as did Ricky Graham. On lap three , Graham took over second. Working his way up from th e third row of the 6-6-2 sta rt, Scott Parker moved into fourth as Eklund a nd Morehead tangled in tu rn on e and lost som e positions. On the sixth lap , Springsteen started losing ground as Labrie and Graham got by. Sp ringsteen's downward trend wou ld continu e a nd he ultimat ely placed 10th. He was not available for comment after the race, but friends sa id he had " tire problems." Graham took over the point posit ion on lap seven, and started to put just a bit of breathing room over Labrie. Parker , running high on th e edge of the cushion , started to pressure Labrie as Randy Goss passed Eklund and Morehead to move into fourth . On lap II, Parker moved past Labrie and started to put the heat on Graham, moving into the lead briefly on lap 15. Graham took th e lead back on the fol lowing lap , but Labrie was still right with the gang. and he took over th e number one position on lap 17. On th e final la p. Graham pla n ned a move on La brie through th e fina l corner. However. his low line backfired as he ca ug ht his foo t on one of the tires lin ing th e inside of th e t r ae k and straightened u p . losing the necessa ry traction . La b rie was the winner with Graham and Pa rker a close second a nd th ird. Goss pl aced fou rt h wh ile Morehead edged Eklund in their battle for fifth . Terry Poovey p lace d seventh ahead of Alex J orgensen. Way ne Ra iney and Springsteen . Hank Scott , Gary Scott and Ted Davidson placed 11th through l Sth, while Sh ob ert was listed as 14th.
