Miller design ed a new rain tire - with straight a nd circular grooves - that p roved to be an instant success as the I I fastest qualifiers in the Belgian GP used the tires in the wet qualifying session that preceeded the d ry event. A proposal for SOOcc 4-stroke dirt track rac ing at a grass roots level will be presented to the AMA 's Professional Rules Committee at their May 10 meeting. The M idwest Promoters Association. in an April 12 meeting in Dayton. Ohio. formulated plans to hold a combined Novice/Junior/Expert raee as part of selected dirt track events for SOOcc 4-strokes. It will be called The Battle of the Brands. Riders will not be allowed to have biakes. A $2,500 claiming rule will also be instituted. The int ent is to low er the cost of racing while getting more brands to compete. Flat trackers and fla t track fans looking for some racing action between the May 10 Ascot N ationa l and the May 31 Louisville Na tional will h ave a shot at a total of $8 ,000 in purse money over the May 16-17-18 week end when the Texas H arleyDa vidso n Dealers p resent the Texas Pro-Series. A $2.000 AMA short tra ck at W ichi ta Fa lls Speedway will be held on Friday night . May 16. followed on Saturday by a $2,000 sho rt track at Ross Downs Speedway in the Ft. Wo rth area. Then "rolli ng th under" hits Devil's Bowl Sp eedway in Dallas.
