APR. 26-27 Capitalizing of the misfortunes of teammate Larry Roeseler late in the second day, Team Yamaha's Jim Fishback took his third straight overall victory in the Sunland Shamrocks TwoDay ISDT Qualifier. Both Roeseler and Fishback, mounted on YZ465s , had posted special test scores well clear of the rest of the pack. But nearing 18· the end of the third of four loops on Sunday, Roeseler slid out on the trail. The miscue bent his exhaust pipe up int o the gas tank, where it soon burned a hole and drained the tank. By the time Roeseler could get it repaired and underway . he lost 44 minutes. Fishback poared on the coals and had over 30 seconds (points) over the nearest competitor overall, and 48 seconds on the second place Open bike piloted by Husky 's Scott Harden. Team Yamaha captured the first two spots in the 250cc class but the margin between first and second was not quite as large. After two days , six trips around a 1.4-mile special test and acceleration test , Rick Munyon edged Chuck Miller by 0.15 pointsl They were tied after Day One. and though Miller had a one second advantage in
