14-yr-old Michael Leuxen won the Ameteur cless in the weekend's trials
events,
He then hopped aboard a Maico
and went up the approximately 415foot hill in 8.50 seconds to win the 366·
530cc Modified class, a little over a
half second faster than runner-up
~orge Sauer's time of 9.04 set on a
Yamaha.
The first person to top the hill was
Carl Collier whose first run in the 366·
530cc Stock class put him over at 10.93
seconds. No one else in that large class
went over on their first attempt.
They had things figured out by the
second run, tbough.
Collier improved upon bis first time
with a 10.51, but then Ray Simmons,
who ran 394 feet tbe fITSt time, came
through with a 10.37 to relegate
Collier to second. Roger Kiefer was
third with an 11.19 on his second run.
All three rode Yamahas.
