This certainly is not a slam at Brad; he's able to make contract demands based on his abilities. Unfortunately. he's an exception to the rule. The word "loyalty" is fast disappearing from the vocabularies of the young riders. Too bad. PM.tt Motorcyclists of all ages and brand affl1iations won't want to miss out on an annual event they would certainly enjoy; the largest event of its kind in the western United States, also claimed by many to be the largest of its kind in the world. all free. On May 5 and 4. the Classic and Antique Motorcycle Association, unknown to a great deal of motorcyclists will hold its annual rally at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster. Rally hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 5 for judging as well as an antique cycle parts swap meet. A poker run open to all will start at 10 a.m. on May 4 from the college parking lot. At no admiBsion charge. cycle enthusiasts have the very rare opportunity to see brands of motorcyles no longer in production such as Indian. Henderson. Excelsior, Flying Merkel. Vincent. Crocker. and numerous others. Brands still in production such as Harley-Davidson. Triumph. BMW. etc.. are also very well repre· sented. Cycles made before 1920 can be seen and some even prior to 1910 are among the more than 400 classic and antique cycles that attend annually. Don't miss this rare. free opportunity. AB 2914 author ignores constituent It has been two weeks since I wrote to Assemblyman Mike Gage opposing AB 2914, in which money would be transferred from the Green Stickie fund to the general fund. In that letter I requested information regarding disbursement of off highway vehicle funds for at least the last five years. Gage has so far ignored the request for information. I have advised Bob Hayes (with a copy of the letter) and you. I have heard that green stickie money has been used for bridle paths and I've yet to see a horse with a green stickie on his behind. Quack! Quackl GRANDMA DUCKBACKER If there is any way to pay back all our sponsors, the first would be to pur· chase their products. Indeedl Support those who support the sport! And. if we do. we are quite sure that all these fine sponsors will be back again with another CRC series in the very near future. and they will be joined by even more support from the industry ... and everyone will benefit. Again. in addition to the 2,700 "Thank you" notes from the participants, you can add two more. Those two come from ... JACK BARBACOVI JERRY McNEAL CRC Carson, CA Impact report "To our sponsors" On behalf of the 2,700 participants in the just concluded California Racing Club Budweiser/Yamaha Series, we would like to extend our very apprecia· tive feelings toward those who made the four events such a tremendous success. We cannot put together a fine racing program without a strong support from other members of the industry, and we received exactly that - strong support - from the participants at our events these past week. From Budweiser, Yamaha, and these participating Yamaha dealers: Long Beach Yamaha. Dick Allen Yamaha, Burbank Yamaha,- Van Nuys Cycle, 1'&0 Yamaha, Granada Yamaha, Yamaha of EI Monte, Harry D. Foster M/C, Yamaha of Cucamonga, Bill Krause Sportscyele. International M/C. Inc.. Yamaha of Goleta, Glendale Yamaha, Bellflower Yamaha and Ted Evans M/C, the major Series sponsors. to the prizes and contingencies donated by Electro Helmets, IRC Tires, Cycle News, Kal·Gard and ND Spark Plugs, everyone's support was super, and from all the participants, "Thank you'" We at CRC would also like to point out the special duty turned in by the participating motorcycle parks. From the beginning of the series at Saddleback Park on Mar. 9, to the hours spent preparing for the finale of the series. Dunestown at Indian Dunes on Mar. $0, we offer a very special "thanks" to the p'ark personnel. Arise Friends of the Earth, Environmental Defense Fund. Sierra Club, et al. The U.S. Geological Survey and the Forest Service are having a volcanic eruption without having filed a proper environmental impact statement. There must be a federal judge somewhere who will enjoin these agencies to stop the rape of virgin Bigfoot habitat and the destruction of the Fujiyama of the West. A full environmental study team must be convened at once to study this matter and. in the ~antime, the eruption of Washington's Mt. St. Helens must be stopped. Cost? Who cares what it COS1S. Bigfoot may be in danger. Write your congressman today to voice your protest and send a check to CORPAC, 2625 Dorine Way, Sacramento, CA 95855. BOB HAYES ~blyman, 59th District San Fernando. CA Loyalty disappearing The interview with Brad Lackey was most interesting to me. At the time he was riding for Husky, I prepared the USA advertising program for the Swedish motorcycle manufacturer. There's no doubt in my mind that I was remiss in not promoting Brad's accomplishments in Europe through Husky ads in this country. Jt is also my opinion based on 15 years experience in promoting racing products through personality/endorse· ment ads, that more than a few riders KERRY BRETHORST Norwalk, CA Once in a while. we win Once in a while, we win one. CA Hi-Mountain SLUP update The purpose of this letter is to in· form all_off-road enthusiasts of the details conceming the Siena Club appeal of the Hi-Mountain Enduro Special Use Permit. On March 15. 1980, the Sierra Club filed an official appearl with the Forest Service which requested a stay of the Feb. 9, decision authorizing the HiMountain Enduro. On April 5. this appeal was denied becalUe a detailed statement supporting the appeal was not timely. Upon further legal advice. the Forest Service reversed their decision of April 5, and has accepted the Sierra Club appeal.
