The May 17 AMA Regionai MX that was acheduled for Golden Stllte IntematioNlI Raceway has been postponed. A new date probably will be announced in time for next week's C,de ".ws. It's a Hesketh. Or specifically, it's a 1000cc DOHC 9O-degree V-twin capeble of a 140 mph top speed, Claimed power is 86bhp at 6.500 rpm, It has Lucas eleetrics. And it's herelded as "the first major British road machine to be announced for 11 yeers." Brad Lackey is leading the FIM 500cc World Championship MX Series point standings! Lackey put his Kawasaki out in front of both motos in the Apr. 20 Austrian GP, to win handily with a perfect I-I score. Second was Yamaha's Habn Carlqvist with a 2-2 afternoon. Third place went to Roger DeCoster who rode his Honda to a 6·4 tally. According to our calculations, that puts Lackey in the lead with 54 points over CarIqvist's 44. Third is last week's winner Andre Malherbe with ~9. Bruce Cox of Trippe·Cox Associ· ates, promoters of the Bel-Ray 500cc USGP of Motocross, and his wife Sue are the parents of a son, DavId Ctviatopher, born Mar, 30. DavId weighed In at eight pounds, 14 ounces, prompting Bruce to describe him as, "looking a bit like his dad: red-faced and fat." The April 19·20 IDBA National Drags at Mississippi's Gulfport International Dragway saw Bo O'Brochta (Kaw) bum to the Top Fuel win over Kenny Blackburn (Kaw) after Blackburn failed to get his engine fired on the line. If thay cen only make that V·twln work. .• The American Motorcyclist Association has evidence that information on tbe new Department of Transportation helmet study was leaked to the Scripps·Howard News Service in Washington at least 24 hours before the repon was available to other news media or delivered to the United States Congress, according to Government Relations Director Ed Youngblood. Ann McFeatters, Scripps-Howard staff writer in possession of the leaked material declined to identify her source or when she received the priviledged information. According to proper procedures, the DOT should release information to the news media only after the report is delivered to Congress. However, memben on Capitol Hill did not get their fint look at the report until at least 24 hoon after t.!te Scripps-Howard article was on the national wire.
