Junior moto, he rode casually at the back of the pack like a Sunday driver. When mota two came along Mike was out front where he had been often enough to be leading the class in points. He looked great, then suddenly he didn't look anything beca~ he was 201 WEST "0" STREET nowhere to be found, His trusty Zookie WILMINGTON. John Kelly's turn came in the 250cc Juni?rs, He'd entered the day with a four· point edge on Mike Lieb, Even with Mike's DNF, the pressure to perform was not eased much, though, because that Cummings kid was up there far enough to force him into at least a founh, John made it look pretty easy in the first moto as he led the way - until he fell down right there in froOl of everybody. He got up and finished third. When the second motOo got underway. Kelly came around in fourth and was unable to move up even one place before the flag, He just squeaked out his needed founh, The grand prize for John was a YZ80 Yamaha provided by Mt. View Cycle Park and Country Yamaha. The rumor was that John was going to trade it in for a bike of more adequate size to replace his aging Kawasaki. Dub Hayes (Hon), who didn't fall down, took the day's win. We had an interesting challenge race between the smallest Pee Wee, Troy Leichner (Suz), and the slowest Turkeys, Neil Roman (KTM) and Doug Snook (Yam). Doug has looked for two years for someone he could beat and he finally found him. Troy beat Neil, though, some, how. Just when everyone had decided most school teachers are suspect, someone like Todd Lucich comes along to pop the bubble. Todd is a PE teach· er in a nearby grade school with an interest in motorcycles, He has gathered a group of enthusiastic kids with par· ental permission (and participation) and grades held high to participate in one play day at Mt. View. They have a race of their own coming up soon. Todd has decided they may get serious about racing and come out to a regular race some day so he sneaked out today to test the waters himself. For his first race he rode the Turkey class but soon proved he's no Turkey. Results PEE WEE: 1. ~ Dogie (Suz); 2. Troy Lelchnar ISuzl. MINI JR: 1. Ralph Swanson IHoo); 2. Eric Swanson IHoo).
