It was covered with wild· flo~ and other heavy green ~owth, causmg the Raven to urge nders to pre-run the bomb. Once again the sheep were in the race course area, ~ut caused no major problems this time. When the banner dropped, the first of three waves of riders took off. Balentine had already pulled to a 50second lead by the time he got to the bomb. Livingston smokes D-38 Barking SplderHS By Loretta Pipkin PLASTER CITY, CA, APR. 6 Leon Livingston, mounted on a 465 Yamaha, notched the overall win in the Fudpucker Racing Team's Barking Spider Hare Scrambles at Plaster City West. It was a shon race in the Easter heat but well attended. About 54 miles were broken - ------ into two looP.'; the first being the shon one at 14 miles, and the second was l!0 miles, run twice. Bill Carr (Vet Ex) had the edge aver Livingston on the fust loop. After the first loop, Livingston renewed his effon and really IIIDOkecl it after what he thought was Carr's dust cloud. As he caught up he found it to be a much slower rider. "I really got on it then," said Livingston. "I knew Carr was fast but I couldn't believe he was that fast. I kept p n ' it and entered check one screaming. 'How far ahead is Carr?' The guy yelled back surprised. 'Hey man, you're the leader.' That's when 1 realized 1 must have passed him in the pit and didn't see him." Carr fmished second overall about four minutes behind Livingston. Don Mathews, a long time 1l!5cc Expen rider, has been doing very well among the l!5Occ throng. He grabbed the class win with a comfonable margin while the batde was between Mike Steams and Paul Eddy. Steams got a bad stan while Eddy got off nose fint at the same time. Regrouping, they had a good dice going when Eddy sucewnhed to a flat. Eddy got moving again only to pass Steams, broken down and sitting by the course. Ron Laffranchi was moving up and after what he thought was Eddy. He caught him but DOt fast enough to pass before home check. It turned out to be Open rider Dale Stevenson as Eddy had takm the fmish flag seconds before them both. Daryl Homes was fint 1l!5cc Novice, 17 spots ahead of the next two who had a race of their own. Mark Webber had led Scott Allen through home check the first two loops, front wheel to rear fender. On the finish lap Allen was the first one home with Webber on his fender..The flying Livingston had lapped them within view of home check. Webber must have been concentrating so hard on Allen he failed to realize it was the leader, as he took another lap. Bruce Cornell topped the Senior division with Les Wolf, Sr. a healthy second. In the Mini bike extra event Adrian Collins took home the gold. Mark Kilgore led all but the last loop when he overshot a comer. He recovered but not fast enough to catch Collins. Fudpucken Team gave a cool one to all finishen and a bottle of bubbly to the fint Expert. Amateur and Novice in.
