When asked about the scoring of a particular race he had no concrete answers. In sho~, the race wasn't organized enough to ensure any problems could be worked out stnoothly. Instead, I left the trad. without knowing how I had done. I know I didn't win, but I wasn't last either. and that's the whole point of going racing. . In conclusion, I'd like to say, I will come out to OCIR and race because I like night motocrosa, and I like the track, but please, Mr. Steve, put on a decent race. Senior citizen's MX Iibl Motocross is a comparatively young sport enjoyed mostly by young people. We do have Old Timers and Vets, but do they ever stop to th!nk ~h:at one day they're going to be senior cmzens? Here I am in my second childhood and no class to ride inl I am only 72 and even the kids on their 80s throw mud at me. I enjoy riding. How about a Senior Citizens class? One for the over-65s. I have waited four years for you to do an article on one of my favorite riders, and what do I read yuki . . Larry Wosick IS not a spoiled brat like that article says. I was at that race where he's supposed to have left Mike (McAndrews) and he stayed until the end and never left Mike standing there. He also got his Vette after he signed with Kawasaki and what young man doesn't want a Vette? Larry is an excellent rider and he's worked hard to get there. True, I guess Mom and Dad helped a little, but I think all parents help out. Besides 1 know for a fact that a lot of the ra~ he won helped to keep his bikes up and buy c1o~hes. before he signed with Fox. He did wan a lot of races you know, anyway. I think you should have read that article before you published it and also I think you should interview L~rry and retract that article. It was hornble and false and ugly. Scoring difficulties On Apr. !l, I at~nde~ and participated in the operung rught of motocross at OCIR. The races were held by R.A.C.E., who held the same program last year. The track is well prepared and flagged and it's located close to my home so I like to go out and race as often as I can. One major problem seems to come up repeatedly, including last year. It's a problem with scoring. My objective in racing is to do the best I can when the gate drops and see how I compare to others in my class. It . is not fair to myself and the other racers to hold an event which cannot be scored properly or scored at all. Yet this seems to be the case. It's not only my class but others as well and seems to be unique to OCIR and R.A.C.E. Last year and opening nig~t this year, my class had two gates ID one race with an average of 15 entrants per gate. Thirty ~ple in the sam~ race, in different diVISIOns (gates), with two different leaders, on a very fast, tight, "bitchin'" course. Each pack of racers stretches out and one race blends into another. In short, who's in first what's in second, and third just shifted to fourth. Obviously the scoring becomes total mass confusion. The scorers are only partially to blame. It seems the organizer, who is also the announcer, worries about his Progress report I am beginning to receive comment from the California congressional delegation concerning an investiga~on into the BLM's activities in Califonua. Your heip is needed to convince these ~en that there is a problem and that aeuon is necessary. So far, I have received the following: I. S.1. Hayabwa has ~nt a ~~ of letter calling for an IDvcsngatlon to the BLM for their review and appraisal. 2. Charles Pashayan (Congressman, 17th District) concurs that Congress should hold "oversite hearings," but after the BLM has completed its finaI plan (September !lO, 1980). Mr. Pashayan is a member of the subcommittee on public lands. It would be nice if we could convince him that an investigation into these matters is needed now. !l. Wayne Grisham (Congressman, !l!lrd District) has initiated an inquiry at the BLM and is awaiting a response. 4. Glenn M. Anderson (Congressman, !l2nd District) states: "~e I would like to provide every. as5l5tance in this matter, your restdence is located in the district represented by my colleague, the Honorable Wayne Grisham." (Is there anyone in the !l!lrd district who wants to help? If sO, give me a call. ) We have a problem. The general reaction has been to refer the matter back to the BLM for comment. I doubt that the BLM is going to agree that an investigation is needed, therefore we need to demonstrate the need for an investigation. Please, take a few minutes and write two short letters; one to Senator Hayakawa and one to your congressman. Ask them to start or sup~rt an investigation into the BLM's acuvities.
