Suzuki teammates Kent Howerton (above) and Mark Barnett (below) opened the season 'with wins.
out of the pack and moved into fourth.
Glover had been forced to pull in to
get his rear brake working again and
dropped to tenth. He ch;tnged wheels
between motos and apparently nobody
hooked it up completely.
He got going quite a distance from
the leaders and put on a tremendous
drive to catch them, knowing that
Barnett was up there and certainly not

Barnett passed O'Mara for the lead
at the halfway point in the race and
went from there with the gleam of a
possible overall victory in his eyes.
Glover, despite falling down once,
forced his way up to fourth at the half·
way mark. It became much tougher to
move up any fanher, though, as he
said later, "My ignition started going
out, and it was bogging in the corners.
After I lost about 30 seconds (pitting),
I couldn't catch them enough each
lap."
He did manage to get past both
O'Mara and Cantaloupi on lap 12,
however, to ease into second, but
Barnett was almost cenainly out of
reach.
Barnett wheelied across the finish
line for both the moto and overall wins
with Glover not yet in sight. Myers·
cough passed O'Mara for third with a
lap to go as Cantaloupi and Taylor
followed them in.
