The 125cc Pro class at DeAnza
Cycle Park saw Craig Gonnley
pull off an impressive two moto
win in spite of some slightly unusual conditions.
Gormley scored th~ moto on~ bol~·
sbot ov~r th~ Honda trio of Scott
Manning, his brother Troy Manning
and Don Gri~we. It wasn't long before
Gormley was way out in front while the
three Hondas were glued to each
other. Scott, who rides for Super Seer
goggles, always h~ld a slight lead while
Troy and Griewe traded back and
forth almost every lap. It was near the
end of the rac~ when Scott unexpectedly had the lead dropped into his lap
when Gormley pulled off the track. It
seems Gormley, who was far out in
front. thought he was even farther out
in front and stopped to correct a
problem with his leathen (his zipper
was down). The horde of Hondas got
by, but Gormley simply took care of
his businesa and remounted to pass
them all and take the win. Scott was
second over Griewe and Troy.
The next moto was a rerun of tbe
first, except for the leader's ~mergency
stop. Gormley led every lap while th
Hondas battled for second. Once
again the results read Gormley, Scott
Manning,
Don
Griewe,
Troy
Manning, and Rick Rodgen (Kaw).
In the first 250cc Pro moto it was
Todd Baldwin (Yam) and Griewe
(Mai) out in front of tbe fint two laps
while Matt Tedder (Suz) held third.
On the third lap Tedd~r fell and gave
the position to Danny Burtt (Yam)
who held it to the end. Baldwin was
having a hard time staying in from of
Griewe until the final few Laps wben
the Maico dev~loped some dectrical
troubles. Tbe order as they crossed the
line was Baldwin, Griewe. Burtt, Paul
Thede (Suz) and Tedder.
It was in tbe next moto that things
got a little strange. Tedder was riding
two classes and he was preny tired
when b~ got off the track after winning
tbe Open Pros. So tired in fact, that be
didn't notice tbat he had the wrong
bike on the line at th~ start of the
250cc race. The 400 made mincemeat
of tbe rest of th~ pack as it shot up the
start hill and soon he was fmnly in tbe
lead. But Greg Zitterkopf (Mai), who
had crashed in moto one, was in
second (fint 250?) and pushing bard.
A couple oflapslater Tedd~r, who still
hadn't realiz~d he was on the wrong
bik~ and would certainly be dis
