With the riders beginning to get wanned up, Wanket and Shulu begaJ! to pressure Kirker for the lead and eventually both riders slipped by to give Wanket the lead with Shultz right behind. Batding for' the fourth spot were Bill Ouellette (Yam) and Johnson. Johnson, having trouble getting his suspension dialed in, slowed the pace and Pat Hubbs (Mai) moved into fifth but soon retired, giving fifth back to Johnson. The moto ended with Wanket barely holding on to the win over Shultz, and Kirker was third ahead of Ouellette and Johnson. Moto two was a different story, Wanket again was first off the gate with Ouellette, Brian Maloney (Hon) and Shulu hot on his tracks. It took no time for Shultz to move into second and again play the game to get past Wankel. Pete Wanket (Yam), who started in the middle of the pack, now had moved up to fifth and pursued Maloney. Shulu was really on the gas as he was picking up two seconds a lap on Wanket and on lap eight, Shultz took the lead when Wanket ran into mu"b slower lapped riders, causing him to use a rougher outside line. At this time Shultz was gone. Pete Wanket had moved into third and stabilized with Maloney in fourth at the flag. The overall went to Shultz (2I) with a discouraged Tony Wanket (1-2) second. Pete Wanket was third then Ouellette and Maloney. Dean Cates (Suz) grabbed the lead in the 125cc Pros and went all the way to the flag for the win. Following Cates was Franks·mounted Williams, J. Picazo, Kirker and Andy Northrup (Suz). Coming from the middle of the pack was new Luft Shocks rider Rick Malti (Yam). He was just benerkin' it and in no time was in fourth place and pushing third place Bruce McDougal (Hon). With Cates running away from the rest of the pack, Kirker bailed off in hot pursuit but restarted and lost no positions. The moto ended with Cates winning handily, Kirker second, then Maki who nipped McDougal on the last lap for third. Northrup was fifth. Moto two was all Maki. He finally got a good start and stayed right up fronl. Cates again was one of the froOl runners but a crash put him out of contention. McDougal turned in a second place ride and with his 4·2 score, Bruce took second overall. Eric Baker placed third and that ride gave him third overall. The overall went to the hard charging Rick Maki. His !I·I score gave him the honors and the second biggest payoff of the day. Results MINI JR: ,. D. Hommacll iSuz): 2. M. Pal""" (Kowl: 3. P.
