Martin fell and threw a chain, slowing up Balcom who was on his tail. During lap three Brown lost the lead after a mistake on the course letting Davis grab the front. A tight group composed of Hicks, Brown, Loftin and Stutts formed to fight for second plal;e. Meanwhile, Bersch was storming through traffic after a poor start. working from ninth place on lap one to sixth on lap four. The moto developed into a duel be· tween Hicks and Brown for second as Davis continued to lead. By this time Bersch held fourth, but couldn't break into a better position before the finish. Brown took Hicks one lap before the white flag was, shown and got pumped to take the lead from Davis. Brown rode his heart out and flew off the straightaway jump side by side with Davis, but lacked the advantage at the final turn before the finish, giving Davis the win. The orde,r at the finish line was: Davis, Brown, Hicks, Bersch, Cardwell and Stutts. Brown once again holeshot the second 250/0pen Expert start. Card· well, Davis, Loftin, Stutts and Bersch paraded through the first turn behind him. On the fifth lap Brown led a tight pack of four riders now headed by Davis who was fighting for second. Cardwell deserves a lot of credit being in the top five aboard a 1978' CR 250 Honda in the Expert class. The order became Brown. Blackwell hot in Texas IIlce- ocross' lI By Randy earthel Photo by Fred Fish DALLAS, TX,JAN. 5 Rick Blackwell of Amarillo dominated what must have been the first event of its kind, at least in Texas: indoor motocross on icel He seemed to adapt very quickly to the different traction conditions of the course which was set up in an ice hockey rink using wooden ramps for jumps. The race format was four qualifying motos for each rider, no one being eliminated. The four riders with the most points were eligible to compete in the final moto for bucks. Blackwell won three of four qualifying motos he was entered in and made the main easily. Three riders tied for fourth place, though, so a runoff was held between Tom Johnson, Greg Fouts and Monty Anderson. Johnson came out on top of the .knock down, drag out event to qualify for the main. Also qualifying were Darren Rhoten and David Boles. Blackwell cruised to an easy win in ,the 12-lap main with Rhoten, Johnson and Boles banging bars in back of him and finishing in that order. • All 2 Tone .20.96 All Black .17.96 CE ETSeatCovers Factory Side Marking.
