Charlie Marshall of nearby Folsom, rode his Carmichael Honda/Hi·Point Husqvarna to a first place finish in the Open Expert class. Although Marshall played second fiddle early in the race, once he took the lead he didn't budge from the spot. Kevin Ingles, riding for Nelson Brothers of Oakland, came out of the start ahead of Marshall, but by the mid· point of lap two, Marshall jetted ahead never to see Ingles again. Charlie, wearing number one, dominated the rest of the race. His win sealed his bid for another AMA District 36 number one cross \:ountry plate. Although the action wasn't quite as fast, the Old Timers and Vets class was the largest of the day with nearly 100 riders taking to the trails. Bill Grigg rode his Maico to a first place finish in the Veterans Expert Division, ahead of Alamo's Jerry Jackson, also on a Maico. Bill McClinton of Vallejo topped the Expert Old Timers. o 00 0') Old Timers Miller and Sanchez tops at Sprockets By Bob Alloy BAKERSFIELD, CA, DEC. 2 Many of us "Old Timers" love to race at Sprockets Park. With its TT type sweeping turns, lots of straights and some jumps thrown in, the track makes for lots of excitement. Also Sprockets is the only track I know of that plays our National Anthem to start. things of£. Appropriately, the flag was carried by a mounted MX rider. Starting with the Masters division, it was Ron Miller who made a clean sweep of things as he took wins in both motos. Some technique there. Marshall Jennings place second twice. Ray Sanchez in the Experts division was out there in moto one, all by himself. He had almost half a track's lead on his nearest competition. Needless to say, Ray clinched the win. Second place was won by Chuc·k Woody who's always in there. Taking the holeshot and leading for two laps was Dick Mosley who's really getting back into it again. Moto two saw Woody and Sanchez go at it. It looked like Woody had it wrapped up but he missed a sharp turn and Sanchez was right there to take over. Doug Archibald took third overall. Ron Clawson and his Maico earned the honors in the Amateur class. Ron took wins in both motos. Bob DeMiranda was also out in force and captured second in moto one. Wrapping up third was Gene Powell. Second place winner in moto two was Gene Powell. Nice going there (;ene. (hat track was quite slippery. Jerry Scott came slipping in for third.
