Quickie Definitions (according to 01' Russ): Apathetic: 99 '~ •• % of California motorcyclists. Pissed: A t least 10 times worse than "appalled. " I'm pissedl You tell me why I shouldn't bel We've spent over 10 years bringing motorcyclists' grievances before the State Legislature and the various landuse agencies. We've finally succeeded in g~ng an "honest-to-God' motorcyclist" elected to the State Legislature so that we can have an inside track. And what do you do? Nothingl . '.' except to let him down when he really needs you. Oh, nol He doesn't need you for his sake - he needs you for your sakel What am I talking about? Just this. What is the most hated land·use agency? What is the name of the land· use agency, managed by poseypickers, that has continuously taken our public lands 'away from us? What is the name of the land· use agency that has shut down the Barstow·to·Vegas race ... cancelled the Check Chase? . . . ad nauseum! Do you need a hint? Or have you already guessed that I am talking about the BLM (often referred to as the Bureau of Land Mismanagement)? Do you know whom I was talking about when I referred to an "honest· to-God motorcyclist" that has been elected to the State Legislature? If you don't then you should know that I am referring to Expert desert racer Bob Hayes, now known as "The Honorable J. Robert Hayes, Assemblyman." Hayes is just completing his first year as an Assemblyman in Sacramento. What has he been doing since he got here? Oh, not much except introducing bill after bill to make things better for all motorcyclists - and for that matter, all offroaders. And then in his "spare time" he busts his butt day and night to keep things like the Barstow-to- Vegas non· organized trail rides from being totally abolished by the various agencies that could step in and shut such things down, but don't - because of Hayes. Now, do you want to know why I am pissed? During the 1979 Legislative Session, Assemblyman Hayes introduced a bill known as AB 1407, better known ·as the Sagebrush Rebellion bill. With this bill, California joined with . 11 other western states in an attempt to throw the BLM completely out of the state, by removing the BLM-administered lands from federal control and placing that control with the individual states. That's right! AB 1407 will kick the BLM out of California I Have I finally got yo~r attention? Well, here is what happened to AB 1407 during the 1979 Legislative Session: On March 28, Hayes introduced the bill. On May 8th, the bill was approved 9-0 by the Assembly Resources, Land Use, and Energy Committee. . On June 13th, the bill was approved by the Assembly Ways and Means Committee. Our objective is to promote and substantiate the performance capability of "TP" products both singly and together. The Team Performance Advisory Staff will monitor and chart exactly how a particular superbike performs on the dyno: horsepower and torque curves, engine temperatures, air density and humidity, etc. Then Team Performance will demonstrate conclusively how each product works independently of the others and in unison. Recommendations on spark plugs and heat ranges, Mikuni tuning and jetting information, tire selection and wear, drive chain maintenance, air filtration flowmetrics, combustion characteristics - fuels, additives. In other words. a step-bystep tuning procedure to set-up a superbike to the exact performance and maintenance standards that the enthusiast and his much worn pocketbook can handle. The "TP SUPERB IKE TUNING MANUAL" will contain tests on the most popular superbikes. however, the almanac of knowledge contained in the manual will serve as a universal guideline for the enthusiast irrespective of what motorcycle or whose aftermarket products he may choose.
