How do you improve on a motorcycle which has been a
World Champion motocrosser three times and a consistent
enduro winner for more than a decade?
Meet the new KTMs.
A 125 new from the ground up. A dry weight of under 200
pounds and more than 25 horsepower are two things which
make the 125 an incredible motocrosser. New case reed
induction, magnesium shocks, a six-speed transtnission and
primary kickstart- are a few others.
An enduro-ready 175. Like all KTMs, the 175 carries Metzeler
tires, Sun rims, Marzocchi air-oil forks and Magura straight pull
throttle. For this year, the 175 also has a lighter aluminum
swingarm, and an improved floating rear brake.
Improving a World Champion 250. The 250 KTM motocrosser
enters 1980 with a new tuned snake pipe for better flow, a new
aluminum clutch, plus a revised swingarm and rear brake.
A 420 with awesome power. The 420 brings with it the widest
powerband in Open Class motocrossers. More than 45
horsepower helped the 420 establish the reputation. Ohlins
shock absorbers, primary kickstart and other features help
make the 420 the maximum KTM.
