Western hotline DIStefano on the comeback trail at CMC Saddleback By Mike Klinger ORANGE. CA. NOV. 18 Tony DiStefano (Hus) might riot have had a prosperous Saturday night at the Coca-Cola Motocross Finals, but Tony was out bright and early on Sunday at Saddleback Park and went on to win two Continental Moto·sports Club Professional classes with CMC. In both motos of the Open Pros. DiStefano, riding out of Anaheim Husqvama, did not get the holeshot but went into the lead within three laps. Trailing DiStefano was Maicomounted Bill Jewell, racing for Moto Meister. "Mr. Bill" gave DiStefano a real threat in moto two but he had to out maneuver Scott Slayton .(Mai). Jewell had trouble trying to get around Slayton, but on the 11 th of 14 laps, Jewell just gunned past Slayton for a 22 score and second overall. DiStefano went I-I for the overall win and Slayton was third. Coming all the way from Arizona. Dave Crawford pulled off the gate just ahead of DiStefano in the first 250cc Pro moto. Crawford had good intentions but the experienced DiStefano took the lead on lap two and no one came close. Running a solid third was Phillip Taboada with Terry Biner closing in to make a run for the Bill Jewell 14) tried, but couldn't cetch Tony DiStefano 137) at CMC. money. DiStefano won hands down with Crawford second then Taboada and Biner. Tony Gomez (Suz) made moto two a real spectacle. Crawford again got the holeshot but this time Gomez was right up with the leader and DiStefano was third, For 10 laps the top three contenders were no farther apart than one bikelength. On lap 11, Gomez took the lead from Crawford and went on for the win. DiStefano's consistent riding enabled him to also nudge past Crawford which gave Tony second place and first overall. Crawford was second overall then came Taboada, Crawford brought out his small bore ,scooter for the 125cc Pros and led the crew up the start ahead of Gary Ogden (Hon) and Rick Adkins (Suz). On lap seven. Crawford kissed mother earth for some unknown reason and Ogden went into the lead. Ogden won. Adkins took second and Paul Thede (Suz) was third. In moto two. Crawford decided to stay on his machine. But. the consistent riding of Adkins and another second place finish in moto two gave Rick the overall. Ogden hung onto third place in moto two which gave him a 1·3 score for second overall. Thede was third. CMC Carlsbad MX goes to JennIngs, Wanket By Mark Kariya CARLSBAD. CA.
