Chris Heisser, SSM's 125cc Pro winner. styles through a corner. Sreker blasts past atStandard Crank's SSM MX By Terry Whytal ORANGE, CA, NOV. S Newly signed to Kawasaki's R&D section, rising star Goat Breker showed up at Saddleback with two potent lime-green MXers. Breker had to settle for second in the Open Pro class behind another Kawasaki lightning bolt, Jeff Ward, as Breker chose to save his energy for the big battle in the 250cc Pro race. With a $1200 purse, provided by the good folks at Standard Crank, Inc. up for grabs the local talent was out in force. The line-up for the start of the first moto included LOP rider Marty Moates, Honda-mounted Jeff Jennings, three-time National MX Champ Tony DiStefano, now riding Huskys, Kawasaki rider Robert Reisinger, Mugen Honda-equipped pilot Clark Jones, Ed Arnet on an unfamilar Suzuki, and of course Breker. Well over SO riders stretched from one end of the gate to the other, the gate dropped and men and machines blasted up the gnarly SaddJeback start hill, led by Reisinger and Moates. Completing lap one still in first was Reisinger just ahead of Moates, Yamaha rider Ron Turner, Breker and DiStefano. Kippy Pierce had his Can-Am in the number six slot while Jones and Arnet were back in midpack after bad starts. The lead five riders were running wheel to wheel, looking for any way around those ahead and trying to hold off those behind and already pulling away from the pack. Moates slipped by Reisinger on lap five and Turner followed a lap later, only to have the rear tire go flat. While Turner headed for the pits, Reisinger regained second momentarily before allowing Breker to move past. Reisinger began to fade back as the tough little rider slowly succumbed to the energy sapping flu he had been suffering from all week. Meanwhile Arnet and Jones had both moved through the pack, into the top 10 and were closing on the leaders. Amet's ride was in vain however, as a flat tire slowed him to cruising speed and although he struggled to finish he lost several positions each lap. Out in front Breker took the lead away from Moates and began to open up a healthy lead. DiStefano and Pierce got past Moates also and the top positions were set. Breker took the win with a big lead over DiStefano, Pierce and Moates. Reisinger held on to finish ruth and Jones battled his way up to sixth. Second moto started with a holeshot from the rested and revitalized Reisinger with Moates once agin breathing down his neck. Arnet held down third ahead of Suzuki rider Jim Tarantino and Honda rider Clint Hardick. Pierce followed in sixth while DiStefano and Breke.r pushed from behind. Pierce went out with mechanical problems on lap four and Hardick dropped back under pressure from DiStefano and Breker. Tarantino DNF and Jones charged into sixth place after another weak start. .Breker swooped around DiStefano and Arnet while Moates grabbed the lead from Reisinger. The pace was too hard on the weakened Reisinger and he had to pull off the track, obviously disappointed after trying so hard. Jones put the move on DiStefano and Arnet to move into third as Breker took the lead away from Moates again. Breker motored away with a big lead as Jones and Moates argued over second. Jones passed and then got repass'ed and at the checkers it was Breker, Moates Jones, DiStefano and Amet. Breker took the overall win with second going to Moates, third to DiStefano and fourth to Jones. • Results OPEN PRO: 1. Jeff W.,d lKawI; 2. Goot Ilrolter l"-l; 3. Ed _IMai). 250 PRO: 1.
