Presstime news from The Superbikers promoters shows that Bel-Ray has pitched in $2,000 contingency money for first place. That brings the pursel contingency total to $36,000. Peter Collins, one of Britain's top speedway stars and a former World Champion, has just returned to England after winning the Kuwait Speedway Championship. Collins will leave for the U.S. immediately. Gerrit Wolsink is awaiting delivery of a bike that's being flown in by Maico for The Superbikers race. Champion Spark Plug Company will furnish the outstanding crystal trophies, worth several hundred dollars, for the top thrtt Superbikers. Believe it or else department According to Cyde News correspondent Karl Okamoto, Mark Ingalls blew off all the competition at the Nov. 18 Sears Point AFM 200 mile endurance road race. So what7 Mark rode a 1974 850cc Norton, solo, to the overall win; that's what! Complate race coverage next week. Somebody drove a truck through the steel door at Stuart Toomey's shop on Monday night, Nov. 19, and stole exactly what they were after - Bruce Hammer's orange and black Kal-Gard sponsored TZ750. Toomey was building a set of pipes for the road racer, and had left the fairing and gas tank in another area of the shop. They took only the bike, fairing and tank; no other motorcycles in the shop were taken. Fram.e and motor number (the same) is 409·200234. Steve Storz. who tuned Steve Morehead's factory HarleyDavidson machinery during the '79 Winston Pro Series, has decided against returning to the circuit full time in 1980. Instead Storz is going to open up his own shop, Steve Storz Performance, and work on "just about everything for dirt track." Steve will also be lending a hand to Ricky Graham in west coast events. George Newton, owner of the Outpost Cafe at 1-15 and Hwy. 395, offered to give half of the money he collected from motorcyclists over Thanksgiving Weekend to the Phantom Duck. The only stipulation was that riders had to present a copy of George's letter which appeared in Cycle News. As it all turned out, approximately 30 meals were served, and that totalled up to Chris Pirsig. son of Robert Plrsig and a main character in the senior Plrslg's book Zen and the Art 01 Motorcycle MaIntenance, was killed on Nov. 18 in San Francisco. Pirsig was two blocks from the Zen Center where he lived when he was stabbed by his assailant, according to a San Francisco Chronicle news story. The new AMA Regional MX program gets underway early next year with three NorCal events in January. In other words, better get those rider license applications into the AMA now! The three races will also comprise the NorCal AMA Winter Series, and the first one is at Sears Point onJan. 5· 6. Then the Sfiies moves to Marysville Riverfront Park where Charlie Sexton will promote round two onJan, 1l!·I!l. Dirt Diggers North M.C. will stage a one day race on Jan. l!7. Want to ride the Seattle and Oakland Supercross races7 Five riders from the NorCal AMA Winter Series will get their chance. The top two Open Pros, the top two 250ec Pros and the top 125cc Pro class rider will be automatically seeded into the starting line-up at those two Suparcross races. Seems to have been some confusion in our AME motocross coverage just lately, In the Oct. l!8 Indian Dunes race, Tim Locey won the l!50cc Pro class, but our repon listed another name instead. Likewise, Locey's name was omitted {rom the Nov. l! AME race where he finished second l!5Occ Pro and from the Nov. 4 event where he won both the l!50cc and Open Pro classes. We are tracing back through our contrib~tor, John Rocha, and the AME to assure that the problem is remedied. Our apologies to Tim Locey and any others who may have been omitted or listed incorecdy. Keith McCarty, Bob Hannah's tuner for the past three years, will marry Vicki Daughety on April 5, 1980. Congretulations to bothl Neil Hudson, said to be Yamaha's sole entry in the l!50cc MX World ·Championships, may find getting OUt of his contract with Maico a bit hard. British· er Hudson, who placed second in the l!50cc GP championship chase this year, is ready to sign with Yamaha. However. Maico has said they will take him to court if he tries to break his contract, which has one year more to run. Kawasaki's plans of getting into the 500cc road race World Championshipl seem to be going ahead as planned. The machine, which is currently undergoing testing, is rumored to be a 500cc square-four, disc-valve, water· cooled two-stroke. It appears that the machine will be ready for the opening event of the 1980 GP season. However, Kawasaki has not yet signed any riders. Another SprIngsteen7 You bet. Chuck SprIngsteen, Jay's young. brothar, will hit the 1980 Winston Pro Series circuit with his eyes 011 Rookie of the Year honors. Although not confirmed yet. appears that he will ride under the Klotz/Wlseco banner. Springsteen hed a promising season going untl he was sidelined after sustaining e concussion and other Injuries. He finished sixth In the AMA Central Regional Championship Junior division. Nevada's Scot Harden (Hus) won overall at the San Gabriel Valley Motorcycle Club's Beatty to Vegas AMA D-!l7 hare and hound. Fellow Nevada rider Kevin Welch (C-A) had been leading the event, followed by Californians Bruce Ogilvie (Yam) and Bob Balentine (KTM) with Harden fourth. However, near the fmish, five miles of course marking had been removed, and Harden was the first to finally find the course. Ogilvie and Balentine finished second and third, with Welch back at about fifth or sixtb overall.
