They weren't disappointed either; three Pro and eight Amateur classes of riden dialed in 22 matos of spectacular racing on a well prepared track. John Laney, of Midland, was the big winner in the Pro classes, taking two of the three events, with Steve LaPoint of Hobbs, New Mexico taking the 500cc class. Laney won both matos in the 125cc class and finished second and fint in his 250cc motos for the win in that class. The 250cc Pro race drew the attention of everyone present with 12 talented riden ready on the line. When the gate drop~ for moto one, it was Laney streaking into the lead with 11 riden in hot pursuit. Baker, Wilkerson and Vincent were in a three way scrap for second when suddenly Laney spun out in a tricky rum, killing his engine. Laney restaned, and found himself in fourth place; it was now Wilkerson, Baker. Vincent, Laney in that order, Laney passed Vincent and Baker but couldn't catcb Doug Wilkerson who went on to win the moto with an outstanding ride. The gate dropped for moto twO and it was holeshot anist Malcolm Vincent taking the lead with Wilkerson, Laney and Baker in the chase. Q.uickly Wilkerson moved past Vincent into the lead but bike problems slowed him a little and Vincent and Laney moved into the fIrst two positions. The second lap was a race to behold; through the next four laps the foursome held positions and pulled away from the fIeld. On lap six, Vincent and Laney went side by side into the high speed sweeping tum and Vincent lost his mount and was down. He remounted quickly and got underway in founh. After eight laps Laney, Wilkerson, Vincent, Baker came into the finish in that order with Laney the overall winner. Randy Seawright and Keith Wilkerson, both of Midland, turned in fIne rides in the l00cc clasa for the fint twO positions. Randy looked super. taking tbe win in both matos. Results Monty _ ; 2.
