Wonh. sonville, Arkansas sponsored by Tarco, Inc., were involved in a near crash with Gregg Harrison (Hon) who was in the lead, zig-zagging. Herndon out-rode Passmore and burned the dirt to take Harrison. Herndon and Harrison were side by side when Herndon lunged forward to take the win with some fantastic riding. Kenneth Childs from Houston, Texas sponsored by Childs Racing Team, rode a near perfect race for third. The fun event of the night was the Buddy Race. This event really takes some skill with two riders on one bike and the buddy's anns swinging to over· power the opponent. Such was the case with Lane Gulley and Larry Godwin of Cowtown Yamaha. Mike Kidd, along with his buddy ably rode off to win the trophy and numbers for side plates and helmets. What a night it isl Enthusiasm fills the air as riders from as far away as Arkansas and Houston prepare for this meet. Tension mounts as quick check-overs are made OD the bikes. Riders are at the gate in their specified class. There is a shifting of shoulders; one rider crosses his hand over his mouth and another strokes his beard. Helmets are pulled on and the gate opens. Riders line up, each fanning the throttle, to be ready. Phil Dyson, AMA National Starter for the Central Region, drops the green flag and they're off. There's a mad scramble to the first turn and one collective goal in sight; the win. Phil Dyson, Jr., from Arlington, claimed the win in the O·65cc trophy class_ The yellow flag had come out for Mike Hale but Hale was back in the race in a flash. Chris Moore rode to a fast second. The 85cc was hair raising. Jimmy Thompson, sponsored by Carter Yamaha, was wheel to wheel with Joe Hodges of LBRT, when he gunned forward to come in a solid second. Mike Kidd had quite a battle with Kenney Tolbert, sponsored by Cow· town Yamaha, for the win in 0-85cc Expert competition. Rusty Patillo, LBRT's claim to fame, was coming on strong until he slid out and finished third. . Bill Herndon, on a Can-Am sponsored by Snap-on Tools, rode off with the 125cc class. Herndon and Yamaha mounted Gienn Pa~more from Jack- . sprocke~. Keep your motor running and tuned for next week. • Results G-65cc: 1. Phillip Dyson ISU2); 2. Chris Moofe 1Han); 3. Mike HaI.lVom).
