Penhall, Autrey take Anaheim World Speedway qualifier By Dennis Greene ANAHEIM, CA, NOV. 16 What was it all about? America's premier riders competed for two berths on a U.S. team that could qualify to compete in next year's World Speedway Final. . All 16 riders are Americans. Ten earned their way to Friday night's event by placing high up in points in the five rounds of 8 qualifying that were run to pick riders for the U.S. National Speedway Championship. The other six riders came home from Europe. where they have been racing in the British Speedway League. They all came to race at Anaheim Stadium, home of the Angels baseball team, the future home of the Rams football team and home of the California Surf soccer team. A special quarter-mile -track was constl).Icted along with the motocross track that would be used on the next two nights. As in every championship-style show, there were twenty events, each with four riders going for four laps. To win earned a rider three points, second place 'got two points, third earned ODe point and fourth got zero. The program is set up so no rider _ will race any other rider more than once. In each of five rounds, there are four events. In round one, Bobby Schwartz, Dennis Sigalos, Shawn Moran and Bruce Penhall all picked up three points for the win.
