Some night and morning cloudiness is likely between the 16th and 18th but no measureable precipitation is expected." Remember, you heard It her. first. Promoters of the Superbikers race to be held Dec. 1 at Carlsbad Raceway phoned on pressday to give Papa a very impressive rider list and a rundown on the program format. Racing for the ABC-TV Sports show will be Kenny Roberts, Graham Noyce, Peter Collins, Steve Eklund, ~rrit Wolsink, Dave' Aldana, ~ne Romero, Mike Bast, Kent Howerton, Jimmy Weinert, Brad Lackey, Da\lny LaPorte, Larry Roeseler, Wes Cooley, Freddie Spencer, David Erode, Mike Bell, Rex Staten, Danny Chandler, Jeff Ward, Scott Autrey, Mike Kidd, Rick Hocking, Scott Pearson, Eddie Lawson, Bruce Penhall, John Hateley and Ted Boody. Forty in all will race. Three heats will be run first: One for the road racing group, one for the dirt track group and one for the motocrossers. The winner from each group will transfer directly to the main event, Three riders - Roberts, Noyce and former World Speedway Champion Peter Collins - will be seeded into the main without having to qualify. (That's six, so far) Then, two more heats made up of all riders (40 start, so that leaves 34, or 17 in each of these two heats), and the top five will transfer from each heat to the main. Then a semifinal will be run, and nine riders will qualify from that race, making 25 in all for the one main event. Don't worry. ABC promises to sort it all out for TV viewers, Not only that, they've put Jim McKay and Jackie Stewart at the microphones, two of their heavies. It would be nice, since Bernie Schreiber is the Observed Trials World Cham· pion, if the U.S. had a 1980 championship round. Unfortunately, neither the U.S. nor Canada was granted one. Of course, Kenny Roberts is the 5000c road racing World Champion and both the U.S. and Canada were dropped from possible championshi'p rounds in that title chase also.
