cooaooooaooocooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooc &; I • ~. II the spectators. There were even some new riders who snuck in and took trophies from the old timers in the 500cc class. David Sims took third with a 14:36 second ride and Rob Fowler took fourth with 14:51 seconds. They were both riding stock bikes. There were also several good or bad, depending on the person, crashes. Will Alford and his 370 Bultaco extended their winning streak to three straight top time wins on this hill. Alford asked his favorite mechanic, Glen Waters of Bultaco Sales of Dailas, to come out and listen to his bike. It had been popping occasionally on the way up the hill and Alford couldn't figure out why. Sure enough, it popped on hi~ fastest run of the day which took 12:03 seconds. Waters couldn't understand what all the fuss was about - it certainly didn't appear to be interfering with Alford's riding. Speculation was that it may have been a secret jet engine kicking in. Alford also took fi rst in the 750cc class on his 750 Kawasaki with a 12:07 second ride. It doesn't seem to matter what he rides - it always goes fast. The Texas Championship Series is corning down to the wire. David Anderson has a/strangle hold on the championship in the lOOcc class and may be the high point winner of the year. Anderson went home with a first place win on his 100 Yamaha after a 16: 34 second ride. His sister, Jackie, rides an 80 Yamaha in the Mini class. She too is in first place for the cham· pionship and added another first to her g,-owing collection. It only took her 17:23 seconds to get to the top. The next two climbs should be interest· ing as the riders in the otper classes try to capture the championships. Results SOcc MINI: 1. Donnie Pardue 1105 ft.); 2. Brian Nicftols 131 ft.I; 3. Logston and Ulve top money winners at Star Track . BySDRA EL PASO, TX, OCT. 14 Star Track held races for the first time with new club officers. Former president John Davies has resigned after serving for al· most two years and doing a fine job of running the races and putting in long hours for the club. His last project was to ra.ise enough money to install a watering system and hopefully purchase a wa.ter truck. Running the races today was Mrs. Tommie Martinez, the new pTesident, who did a fine job and ran a good show. Scott Logston (Yam) topped the 125 and 250cc Pros today while Dean Ulve (Yam) out·rode the Open Pros for two moto wins. Maby McIntyre ·(Yam). who's usually up front, had a bad day; after winning one moto, bike and body troubles plagued him the rest of the day. The 125cc Pros were the biggest money class, as usual. Scott Logston came off the line with a lead that he kept to the finish. Brad Tabor (Yam) stayed on Logston's tail until the leader started stretching out to a 20 second lead. Tabor's bike broke halfway through the race giving second to Tracy-Mcintyre (Yam) while twin brother Mike (Yam) took third ahead of Tres Craig (Yam). Second moto saw Tracy McIntyre with the lead while Logston followed close. Just before the ha]fway mark, Logston turned up the wick and left it wide open going into a turn, taking the lead, but little Mcintyre cut insi'de and took the lead right back. Logston passed for good going up a rough hill and started to open it up. Logston. started to fade but still got ~o the finish about five seconds ahead of Tracy. Jimmy Woleslagle (Suz) came in third ahead of Mike Mcintyre. Watch for these McIntyre twins they're following in their big brotl;ter's footsteps and looking good. Dean Ulve (Yam) took the holeshot in the first moto of the Open Pros and took it to a win. Maby McIntyre (Yam) came from last to second and then pulled off the track on the last lap for unknown reasons. This left Bobby Woleslagle (Yam) in second. Bobby, the oldest of three Woleslagle brothers, was the hottest 125cc rider back in '72 but he only races for fun now. Joel Craig (Suz) followed in third. In the second moto, Ulve had to recover from a first turn crash. Dizzy Dean did just that and worked his way up to first with a good ride for the overall win. Joel Craig found himself in second, fighting to hold off the steady riding Woleslagle. On the last lap Joel went wide and Woleslagle went by for second. Danny Suggs (Suz) continued his winning ways in the 125cc Amateur with two perfect motos. Lloyd Olson (Hon) fought off a flat tire for second overall, while David Tarin broke a four· way tie for third with Mike McGrath, Brother Martinez. and Bob Nickols. Old man Mike McGrath, riding three Amateur classes, won the 250cc and Open. Is Mike secretly training for an all-out assault on the National circuit next year? He's certainly in good enough shape. Luis Castaneda (Suz) won the 250cc Novice overall after two moto wins. It won't be long until Luis is up front in the Amateur division. Jerry Lovelace won the 125cc Novice class. Jerry has a bad knee that's kept him out of racing for over a year but his determination has really paid off. Results 1all SUNDAY • NOV.
