Miller's win didn't come easy, though, with plenty of competition from Can-Ammounted Juan Benavidez and Crown Cycle's Greg Zitterkopf (Mai). The first holeshot, in fact, went to Benavidez while Miller rattled handlebars with Zitterkopf and Jim Tarantino (Suz). The four of them fonned a little battle of their own in the early laps, putting a big margin between themselves and the rest of the pack which, by lap two, was led by Ted Hoyt (Yam). The race remained static for five laps with no passing at all, but then on the same lap both Benavidez and Tarantino, who had been in fourth, ran into trouble. Going into a turn with Miller right on his tail, Benavidez locked up his front brake and went down. He fell back to fifth place but then Tarantino dropped out of the race with mechanical trouble, moving Hoyt into third and Benavidez into fourth. In the remaining laps the race between Miller and Zitterkopf heated up but on the last lap Zitterkopfs Maico blew a hole in its piston, ending his race for the night. At the line it was Miller, Hoyt, Benavidez, Eric MacCracken (Hus) and Chris White (Yam). Round two saw Miller grab the holeshot and walk away with the race. The entire moto was a parade with Miller up front every lap followed by Hoyt, Mike O'Drisioll (Suz) and MacCracken. The only race was for fifth between Scott Wilkinson (Hon) and White with White eventually coming out on top. Overall it was Miller, Hoyt, MacCracken, White and Wilkinson. The I25cc Pro class couldn't even be called a race. There just wasn't another rider there ·that could hold a candle to Dale. In both rounds he started in about fourth place but tooK the lead within a quarter of a lap. In the last laps of the first moto came the only challenge to Dale's supremacy when his Husky began to sputter and slow down. Andy Orescanin (Suz) instantly cut Dale's lead down from 15 seconds to about seven seconds, but then the trouble began to clear and Dale was on the gas again. At the line it was Dale, Orescanin, Andy Northrup (Suz), Rick Rodgers (Kaw) and Todd Peterson (Suz). The next race was again Dale's all the way. Peterson held 'second in the early laps but he dropped out, giving the spot to Troy Lee (Suz). Orescanin was third across the line but nailed second overall ahead of Northrup, Lee and Dave Coyle (Suz). R'esults MINI BEG: 1. Roger Ebling (!taw); 2. Scon Lastrow (Suzl; 3. Scon v...... (Yom!. Baeder doubles at ARRA Ontario RR By Jim lester ONTARIO, CA, SEPT. 50 The American Road Racing Association played host 'to over 100 pavement specialists, as they raced Ontario backwards for the first time. Glen Shopher(Yam)jumped off to a big l~ad in 250cc GP, with Barry Elliott (Yam), Mike Baeder (Yam), and Leland Hancock (Yam) battling for second. Barry held onto second for the first four laps, with Baeder finally moving past him on lap five. Hancock made his' move on the eighth lap, slipping into second, with Baeder third. and Elliott fourth. Shopher, meanwhile, proved the old racing adage, that "to finish first, you first have to finish," when he threw his bike down the road in the infield on the last lap.
