3.1 At least three portions of the proposed route can not be verified
as following existing vehicle routes, as required by the California
Desert Vehicle Progrem. Those portions include:
- from the start to the pole line road,
- from east of the tank treck berm to the west
edge of the lava beds, and
- east of Amboy Road to the pole line road.
I recognize that nature may eliminate evidence of parts of roads or
trails, but the proposed route includes areas where no current
evidence of an existing vehicle route can be found for miles.
4.) During the environmental assessment process, a high densities
lsic) of potentially significant culturel resources were documented in
the sand dunes area near Cadiz Lake. A race through these sites, on
other than clearly identifiable roads, would jeopardize their integrity.
The approved route described above offers an opportunity for a long
distance, point to point rece from Ludlow to Parker. It avoids sensitive'
natural and cultural values, and appears defendable against any legal
challenges.
This event allows for baseline monitoring of start. pit. and finish
areas, as well as readings of established monitoring plots on the
Parker 400 course.
