Lee Ramage and Pete Wanket 1481 lead the 500cc Pros at CMC Carlsbad.
In the ~ond contest no one could
touch Tarantino as he led it wire to
wire for the day's win. Domann
danced in on Tarantino's heels for a
second overall and a stadium
qualification while third [or the day
went to Jammin' Danny Jean on his
Redlands Suzuki-sponsored RM.
Craig Dale went wild for Suzuki
West, taking two wire to wire ·wins in

CRC holds first
Amateur Stadium
MX qualifier
By Keith Clemons
ORANGE, CA, SEPT. 23
The first of eight local qualifying
events for California Racing Club's
upcoming Amateur Motocross
Championship was held at SaddIeback Park and by the size of the
day's crowd you could tell that the
Anaheim Stadium event will be a
smash. Hundreds of riders showed to
make a bid for a chance to race on the
Coca-Cola Motocross Final's track .the
day after the National Pros do weir
.thing. The Amateur event will be held
Nov. 18.
Qualifying in the Open Pro class
were Scott Cavness and Dale Lewis.
Cavness drove his Anaheim Suzukisponsored machine through an
unchallenged first moto for the win
with Lewis pulling in second on his
TNT Maico. Joe D. Price bore down
to complete the race in third.
Second time around Lewis landed
the early lead but Ron Palmer picked
a choice line which led him to the top
on the fourth lap. Cavness,
meanwhile, got a slow eighth place
start but definitely had designs on the
win. Though it took him into the final
laps of the race to make it, Cavness
pulled past the checkers in the number
one position to win his second race for
the day and first overall. Palmer
finished second but placed third over·
all while Lewis, who followed him
home, placed second for the day.
No one could ques~ion the fact that
Jim Tarantino was hot. Tarantino
pulled full domination on both 250cc
Pro races and earned his chance to
ride the stadium. In the first heat
Tarantino had to work his way around
Pete Snorteland before blasting off
into the cosmos on his Cole Bros_
Suzuki. Snorteland held his Can-Am
on target to finish number two with
Jim Domann Yamahauling home
third.
