Steve Eklund isn't the only Grand National Champion from San Jose. Joe 'Leonard, the 1954. '56, and '57 champ also hails from that city. Leonard's son wished Eklund luck before the races began. Assorted Six Days stats: 392 riders from 19 countries started. Two hundred sixty·nine finished, with 152 still on Gold. Lassee now, if handy-dandy 'iii pocket calculator is correct. that's a 68.6% finisher rate, with a Gold level of 38.7%. The class winners were as announced pre· viously, but some of the mid·pack positions have been changed. The top five in each class: 125cc: Rick Stout, Steve Wiseman, _Scott Coutts, Scott Atchison and Randy Coulter; 250cc: Lenny Giger, Charles Welk, Marty Miller, Jim Jack -and Darrell Hutchins; Open: Kevin Davis, David Gerig, Scot Harden, Craig Adams and Bruce Ogilvie; Over 30: Charles Conway, Ron Bishop, D.A. Davidson, Dennis Decamp and Luis Farell; Over 38: David Miller, Kenneth Thorall, Cecil Hollenbeck, Red Sanders and HOyt"Statham.
