Two-Wheel Transportation Day set for L.A. LOS ANGELES, CA. SEPT. 17 The LA. County Board of Supervisors has approved a resolution proclaiming October 2 as "Two-Wheel Transportation Day" in Los Angeles County. The Boerd joins LA. City Council members, who introduced a similar rasoIution last week. urging all Los Angeles aree businesses, community organizations and all citizens to consider using two-wheel transportation - bicycles, mopeds or motorcycles as alternatives to the automobile on October 2. Supervisor Pete Schabarum, who introduced the resolution, presented it to William K. McClelland, president of the Los Angeles Council of Presidents. LACOP, who represented major business and industrial organizations in the Los Angeles area. originated the idea of "Two-Wheel Transportation Day" in an effort to help offset the pressing energy crunch in southern California. More than 50 local municipalities are expected to participeta in the event. Special commuter routes, security parking and other two-wheel activities are being planned throughout Los Angeles County to emphasize two-wheeled, personal transportation. u.s. GERMANY, SEPT. 15 The 54th International Six Days Trial produced a mixed bag of results as far as the 400man American team was concerned. The six-man Trophy team of Dick Burleson, Jeff Hill (filling in for injured Frank Gallol, Kevin Lavoie, Ted Leimbach, Jack Penton and Larry Roeseler finished sixth. Topping the Trophy Team competition was Italy, followed by host country West Germany, and Czechoslovakia. Californian Roeseler [Husl was the top placing American, sixth in the 500cc class. America's four-man Silver Vase team also finished sixth as that competition saw Czechoslovakia, East Germany and West Germany finish 1-2-3. Day Six heroics were turned in by Pennsylvanian John Ayers (Mail, who by winning the final MX special test moved from Silver to Gold Medal status in his first ISDT. Thirty-three of 40 Americans finished the grueling contest. Perhaps the most notable performance of the finishers was turned In by another Pennsylvania resident, Ed Lojak (Husl. Lojak earned a Silver Medal although he was riding with a broken collarbone. Top performance by Americans behind Roeseler were logged by Ted Leimbach (KTMI. Californian Bernie Schreiber (Bull finished first in the final round of the World Championship Observed Trials Series in Czechoslovakia on Sunday, Sept. 16, to win the World Championship. Apparently, Harley-Davidson took the faster of the two bikes - Morehead's and Springsteen's - and gave it to Springer to ride at Meadows, PA last weekend. Morehead, on the "slower" machine, beat Springsteen anyway.
