Rick Benek heeded up the 250cc end Open Pro pey line at S.I.R.
Airport short track has become
a regular stop for riders during the
long weekend. Keith Day, on the
Salinas Kawasaki, had no trouble
leading all laps of the 250cc Expert,
and neither did Mark Key, on the
McGiII·Yamaha, in the 500cc Expert.
A light turnout wasn't unusual,
what with traveling expenses what they
are, but it seemed like the usual troops
were up to their usual winning form.
Jason Cahoon bested the Pee· Wee
class along with Bodie Shepard, while
Bennie Scardina beat out Ricky Smith
in the- 80cc Novice and Eric Mayfield
got the only 80ccJunior trophy.
Two big Expert Mini classes saw
Chris Carr best Doug and Kurt
Chandler on his Jorgy Suzuki while the
IOOcc Expert was a comeback for the
brother team winning over Carr.
Frank Marlin beat out Jim Pettit for
125cc Novice honors while Rick
Garcia took on and beat Chet
Patterson in the 250cc Novice. Steve
Martin and Bobby Nelson diced for
the Junior checkered with Martin
getting the nod, while Day had little
competition for the 250cc Expert win
over Mark Key and Billy Scott on the
S&S Yamaha,
Chuck Lozier bested the S60cc
Novice bunch on the H&S Bultaco
while Beau Marciel continues to win
whatever he comes up against on his
TM 400, Jon Teraji took second on a
similarly old BSA victim. Darrel
Hughes had little trouble winning the
500cc Junior on the Yamaha of Salinas
1T500 over Rod McCollough while
Mark Key dialed in the starter for the
500cc Expert runaway over Cal Cycle
Supply rider Danny Moore on ,the
Champion Honda, Third went to Pat
Seigle on the Boss Yamaha.

Lucky" 13" series
wraps It up at S.I.R.
By Sue Sykes
KENT, WA, AUG. 24
Although the CMC Lucky "13"
series at Seattle Int'l. Raceway
ended with this race, it's been a
great summer. Many of the riders hit every race and they deserve a
special pat on the shoulder pads.
Pee Wees were out of the supercross
gate first and brought the crowd to
their feet. Series winner Tavius
Thompson (Suz) zoomed in for first
'and Mike Wiggins (ltj) took second.
Rick Benek took home the Pro •
payoff in 250cc and Open while Lucky
Series 125cc Pro winner Scott Henden
(Yam) did it in his class.
The biggest class of the series has
been -the 125cc Juniors with 40·60
riders showing up each night. Lance
Richotte (Suz) walked away with
tonight's overall with a I-I and Lloyd
Caldwell cinched his series win by only
two points over Mike Zerr with a
second overall. ZeIT won his moto heat
then came up with a DNF - earning
only one series point for the night.
Mighty Mike Brist had a super finish
with a I-I score over 14 Mini Junior
riders. This Suzuki ace is on his way to
the big time.
