Voices , .. (Continuedfrom page 4) Knowing our deadline, as stated in the editor's expl4nation I4st week, the reasons are obvious. Our "one-sided small item, off-handedly mentioning" the settlement, as you describe it, consisted of the complete six-point settlement. The PDOD people wrote those six points, and they're very proud of the wording. It, in essence, turns the tables on the BLM. It forces them to solicit public opinion (point five) for a Thanksgiving weekend race or ride. If they don't, the PDOD people can take them to court on a contempt charge (see how the tables have turned.') with the U.S. Attorney on the Duck s side. In the same article, which was boxed-in for emphasis on our most-read Latest Poop page along with the Sagebrush Rebellion bulletin, we included' the BLM's highlydefensive reaction to the settlement. They glossed over the obvious victory by the PDOD side and completely overlooked point five in their summary. We pointed that out in the final sentence in that article. Neither of the clippings you sent in were that concise or informative. They were written in general terms for a general audience. We felt our readers would appreciate knowing the exact details. As expl4ined in I4st week s editorial reply, Louis McKey chose not to present his information to us until after the BLM had made their move. He has done that now - in I4st weeks paper - and we're now waiting and walching for the next move in this Public/bureaucratic chess game. We're not really $Ure where that Oct. 12 date came from. We've called the BLM and are waiting for the reply. We talked to Rick Siemanfirst, and he offered no details on where to sign up for the Oct. 12 ride, tn·ther. As details become avail4ble, they'll appear in our Latest Poop column. We agree with yov that an interview with the PDOD people is necessary; only our timing is different. We think Thanksgiving weekend, or the days that immediately follow (depending on exactly what happens) will be the nght time to do it . .. Editor. ,.
