/ the downhill and e~ by there on lap seven. It proved to ~ a short-lived lead, though, as the Roo started chucking chains on the following lap and Rhyan retired. Wanket took it from there for the win with Jeff Jennings (Suz) second. Huff Hadley (Mai) swapped places with Arden Hadley (Mai) several laps from the checkered for third while Lunde latched on to fifth. In the second moto, Wanket went wire· to· wire to earn ·the lion's share of the purse. Chris Chaffee (Yam) moved op to second after Jennings and Lunde both dropped out in the early going. Burt Wald (Hon) haggled with Scott Johnson (Hon) over third for a while before making his move three laps from the end, leaving Johnson and M'att Devich (Kaw) to argue over fifth. Lee Ramage (Mai) got the holeshot in the first 500cc Pro moto but his front backing plate broke during the first lap, causing his brake to lock up at the most inopportune moments like on the downhill - and eventually forced him to retire. There was no question as to the winner of the race, however, as Rhyan simply rode away from everyone on his big bore Maico. Jim Cooke got a poor start but came on strong in the last half of the moto on a new Kawasaki 420 Uni-Trak to snag second from Alan Smith (Hus). David Gerig (Esc) and Steve Walker (Yarn) fUled the four/five slots. In the second molO, Rhyan took over from early leader Chaffee (whose day of poor luck continued as he faded to sixth) on lap four and after that, he just circulated around the track content with his lead. Gerig, Smith, Cooke and Ro~rt Marino (Yam) kept pace in spots two through five and each finished in that position overall as well.
