Photos by RIct-d CrHd. 4 Popular Hunt Concerning Dick Ainsworth's comments in the Central Pipeline section of the August 15 issue of Cyck News about Kreg Hunt's alledged unpopularity with fans and riders, we at Sunset Yamaha take objection. Mr. Ainsonh should be assured that 15·year·old Kreg is a well·lilted and respected racer in all' the states he travels and competes. His racing exploits are followed closely by residents of both his home town of Yukon, OK, and our city of Woodward. We are proud of Kreg for winning an AMA Amateur shon traclt championship last season and will continue to suppon him as part of our racing team. In the future we are confident that Mr. Ainswonh Will not express his personal opinions of individual riders when reponing nice results, or reserve his views for editorials. MERRILL VANDERSLICE Owner· Manager, Sunset Yamaha Woodward, OK Dear Larry Langley, . , I just wanted to thank you for publishing the jetting specs on Dick Burleson's :'190 Husky in a recent edition of Cyck News. I changed the jetting in my '78 :'l900R to the specs you listed and I just cannot ~lieve the difference in performance. Also the plug readings look perfect. Anicles like the above are really interesting and helpf~1. Let's have more of them. BILL RUSSO San Diego, CA Stay away, desert pig In checking and cleaning up what little is usually left after a race, I found what some people would call a pig pen. You, wh~er you are, camped about Y.. of a mile off the road and about one-half 'mile from the Rover sign-up area at the Rover team race on Sunday, Aug. 12. You left enough garbage to tell a little about yourself - smashed helmet, food, cigarette packages, beer cans. ydlow duct tape, paper, etc.• enough to fill two large plastic bags. If this is the way you leave the desen, I hope you newr come to a Rover race again, or any other desert race. The desert is mine, my club's. and every other real desert racer's. I repeat, I hope you and your kind never come to our desert again - the desert we are fighting to keep for our enjoyment and recreation. BENLATrA 1025x Azusa, CA B-to-V freedom ride Yes, by all means, let's give the persecuted Duck next Thanksgiving off. I am going to have my own B·to- V ride with a few friends (less than 50 for sure), it's going to be called "The Barstow to Vegas Freedom Ride" and any reference to real facts, people or names will be purely coincidental of course, as will be the date of Saturday, November 24. The reason I am letting everybody know about my ride, is that I do not want to break the law, no matter how idiotic, so ... everybody else please stay at home with your turkey leftovers,. that day and let me and my less-than-50. friends have the desen all to ourselves. THE UNIDENTIFIED RIDING OBJECT P.S. I hear the Marines, the Air Force and the National Guard may be there too. Hope they know about the 1essthan·50 rule or they may get in trouble ... Way to go, OMRRAI Very recently it was my sincere pleasure to attend one of the most pleasant, well-run racing events I've ever peen to: A road race in Portland, put on by the Oregon Motorcycle Road Race Association and a Saturday event at their Ponland International Raceway. Things went so smoothly, so well coordinated with worken, etc., that the unusually hot Oregon weather caused no mean tempen or confrontations sometimes auociated when a club hosts an event that I have been informed that I cannot invite anyone to B-to- V '79, which is how it sounded in my previous letterTn the August 29 issue of Cyck News. So. Please be dis-invited by me.. Do not go out there because of Grandma Duckbackerl I still plan to be there, along with my grandchildren, but certainly not because I was invited by anyone! Judge Ferguson himself said, "We have the right and the obligation (as citizens) to protest legally ... " And that is exactly what I'm trying to do. I must remain underground for fear of persecution and prosecution by tbe. BLM. I can't fight them in any way; 1 can only hope to ruffle their feathers. . If I've done that, then I've accomplished a great deal! This' is a great country to live, in, and I certainly do not support anarchy, but I do hope we can ovenhrow the BLM. We don't need them. Other states are doing 'without . them, and so can we! Listen folks, it's now or never. We have to back the Dud. There is no one else. We cannot keep losing our freedoms, one by one. Please pledge something to the Phantom Duck of the Desen to help his defense. I understand the Duck's defense fund is empty! He isn't doing all this for himself, you know. It's for all of us. He really needs the bucks. Let's not let the Duck die. GRANDMA DUCKBACKER A picture Is worth •.. If I were good at drawing, I would do a cartoon that looks something like this; .. _a courtroom, a judge, high on his bench, pointing a commanding finger at several combat-ready representatives of the U.S. armed forces ... ... in a corner, on thcr accused bench, a uduc~, in chains. surrounded by BLM and CIA agents. The .caption would go something like this: " ... You will stop those dirt bikers from ruining OUR desert even if you have to bomb it full of holes .. How about it? It might even make a great front page for Cycle News. and it could be the fint of a whole series of canoons aimed at supporting the Phantom Duck of the Desert. If you decide to use the idea, please send a complitnentary copy to Judge Ferguson. It might bring some sanity back to our counrooms. 10 MAURICE MAURIZI Granada Hills., CA They say a picture is worth a thousand words, Maurice, but your description is certainly more than enough to convey the mesmge. Why not send the judge this clipping? .. Editor. Next week ,ISDT Preview
