made' up some distance, but apparently decided to pack it in before the finish. He was credited with a 12th place finish. Davis continued in the lead; but Gerig was starting to apply pressure. Bill Tarling moved up to third, only to drop back and then out. Harden moved in to fill the slot, with Ogilvie and Adams scrapping intensely for fourth. Giger had pulled a healthy lead in Class 21 by the halfway poin.t, with Marty Miller (Sur) and' Jackson fighting over second. At just about the halfway point. Gerig took advantage of lapped traffic and passed Davis for the lead. Davis didn't despair. "I couldn't keep my concentration' when I was ahead of him, . but when I was behind him I could really go," he said after the race. On the succeeding .Iap, with both riders side-by-side and BTTW down a fast straight, mere· millimeters apar~, Davis. held it on a little longer and retook the lead. Gerig dropped off a bit, but closed up hard on the final ~~. . Davis had had very little gas left after the finish of the first moto, and on the final lap, he was shaking his bike from side to side to get what little was left headed in the direction of the carburetor. Still: "I ran out of gasl Right there at the finish lineI" But Kevin had the win - something nice to think about while he and his family were driving to Utah for a motocross race the following morning. Gerig finished second and Harden took third, possibly locking up the Class 22 points championship for Scot, with one race left. Fourth overall went • to Adams, who. compiled a 4-5 score. Giger finished sixth overall and won Class 2I with his 2'-1 tally. Second overall went to Welk, the defending Class 22 champ in this race, who compiled !I-4 placings. Miller and Jackson finished next in the overall ranks, ahead of Tripes. John O'Mara was the first 125cc to finish in the second race, but his first moto DNF left him 10th in the overall standings. Wiseman finished second in the final race, with Stout third after his fork seals went south and allowed most of' the oil to disappear, In the Class 20 overall standings, though, Stout's l-!I bested Wiseman's !I-2. Scott Coutts took third overall with a 4-5. Scott Atchison (Yam) was fourth overall. Charlie Conway worked his way in to the Class !l0 lead to take his second win of the day.
