The win moves Coon from seventh in the standings to a dOle founh place with two more races in the NO series. Woody Carlson fma1ly had a no-erash night and parlayed a.%· 4 effon into a third overall In the 125cc Pros, Bryon Antonacci took a dOle tie- breaker win over point leader Scon Meyer, as the fonner Mini stan staged a beautiful side by side match up in both mOlOS with the issue in doubt right to the checkered. It was son of a replay of the previous 1ftek's action where Rick Johnson scored the close win over' Antonacci. A spKtacular, but unfonunately serious double endo crash brought an end to the beautiful side· by· side duel between Clint Hardick and poiot leader Kirk Grissom in the %SOcc Pro second moto. Point leader Grissom (Hon) had lost the fint mota to Hardick by a scant bikeJength, and in the second round held an early lead over Hardick, with Clint finally getting by with one of his patented quick .moves. Then Grissom came back and was running side by side with Kir~, actually a few inches ahead when it happened; Grissom appeared to get a bit sideways as he went under Hardick in the high banked nonheast tum and then went off the jump sideways also and hit in the same fashion. Grissom then bounced up and into Hardick who also started flipping. With both riders the only %SOcc Pros left running, it was a case of who was going to get up fint and it was only Hardick, who limped in for the win and a tie for the ND Plug point lead. Grissom required a trip to the hospital where he was detained overnight. After giving the large Junior Minicycle field a month and a half head stan on the NO Plug point chase, "Amblin' Arni" Lemon is really closing with a rush - piCking up his third straight win and moving into third in the point standings race. Steady riding IO·year-01dJohn Conney picked up another second place and stays in second in the parnt battle although Lemon is dosing up. The wild uSec Juniors were just as wild as ever with point leader Don Seay scrambling to stay on top riding another borrowed bike (this time a Kawasaki)- for a come from behind win over Mike Monsegur. No doubt about Stout,at DeAnza By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAO, CA, AUG. 12 In the past few months only two names have topped the DeAnza 125cc Pro results, Riverside Suzuki rider Rick Stout and Indio Suzuki's Craig GormleY. Every week either one or the other comes out and destroys the class but it has been . rare that they show up on the same week. Last Sunday. however, they were both on the line, neither one willing to _tie for anything but ftrst overall. Stout grabbed a handful of throttle and shot out of thefim moto hole with the pack following behind. Gormley came off the line in founh and it took him a couple of laps to put himself in second, but Stout had already built a small lead. Soon both riden were all alone in front while Vanya Samarin (Suz), Seon Baker (Kaw) 'and R'ich Boiteau (Suz) diced for third. Samarin eventually stabilized in with third but Boiteau managed to pass Baker for fOllnh and Kenny Trask (Kaw) moved up from a near last place stan into sixth place. Back up front the action was staning to heat up· with Stout getting careless and allowing Gonnley to gobble up his lead. The two of them were now clOle eno\lgh to spit at one another and it was an all out race. Gonnley pushed hard. but Stout wouldn't give in and the checkered flag came out with Stout still on top. Samarin. Boiteau and Baker followed, but Trask ran into trouble and let M. Smith (Hon) take over sixth. GermJey was determined to taU the second round and he came out of the fint tum in front, but Stout was right on his heels. The two of them once again left the rest of the pack as they waged their own private war for the fint place money. At the halfway point it began to look like Gonnley would be the winner of the long standing feud as he began to pull a slight lead. But Stout wasn't about to let it go that easy and he caught up in the last half. It came down to the final two laps with both riders still going all out and then they tangled in a tum and Gormley went down. Stout went on to an anticlimactic win while Gonnley was second, still with a good lead over Rick Guilmen (S"uz) , Samarin an4 Todd Baldwin (Suz). The 2S0cc Pro class was a runaway win for a new name at DeAnza, Brian Chereshkoff (hon). He led the fint round from stan to finish while Keith Brajevich (Kaw) was second ahead of Clint Tarvin (Hon) and Chris Tarvin (Hon). The second moto saw Chereshkoff do it again with Brajevich also repeating his first perfonnance. Clint Tarvin was third again with only Scott Smith (Suz) making a change in . the top five by taking founh ahead of Don Jackson (Hus). Results PEE WEE 11: 1. GnIg MocnlHanl: 2. KorTY T _ IV""". If dust wasn't a problem, mud was as slip n' slide conditions reminiscent of last year's monsoon season brought a change of pace to thoee who had just beltun to establish a love for sun baked soil Rick Maki got his leathers wet but made it pay by taking fint overall in the 12Scc Pro race. Maki's hodine to the top came in his first moto drive when he carried his Yatnaha Motor Corp. machine into the lead where he stayed to win the race. Andy Kirker tnade the play for second catching up to Maki in the eighth lap but was unable to push his Crown Cycle Yamaha into the front and held the second place position to the finish. Gary's Cycle riderJuan Benavidez rode home third. Bruce McDougal took his Blandins Nonh C.T.Y. Honda wire to wire in the second moto but his founh place flnt moto finish left him in line for only second overall while MaJii, who Yamahauled it in second, took the overall fint. Third overall went to Andy Kirker who finished third in the second mota. Greg Robertson made the big score for the day by winning both the Open and %SOcc Pro races. The only moto Robertson didn't dotninate was the frrst %SOcc Pro race where Scott .- Gillman took the glory. In that moto Robertson played IeCOIId ~ but Gillman ran into early problems m the next round and didn't fmish, leaving Robertson with an easy wire to wire win. Pete Snone1and took his TriTech Can-Am in behind Robertson Path motos for a solid second overall and though Bob Marino toolr. third in the second race, third overall went to Kawasaki Motor's Cun McCuistion. Whee1smith's Robertson sailed his Maico through the grey drizzle for both Open Pro wins. Cutting a course from coast to coast tbe only view to be seeD( of Robertson was from the backside as he slipped untouched through the mist to claim his second overall victory. Bob Marino couldn't be kept out of the rain either and entering into the Open Pro contest improved his day by taking a pair of second place wins for a locked in second overall.
