Suzuki's Mark Barnett took his Doug-Grant prepared RA-125-79 works bike to the overall win in 125cc action, defeating reigning , National champ and current 8 point I.~ad~r Broc Glov~r in a ~ond moto t1~·br~ak~r. In th~ 500cc National. it was Mik~ B~II Df T~am Yamaha who put t~th~r solid fourth and third plac~ fmishes to cap th~ ov~rall win on his 490cc works OW-41 lun~ by Dav~ Osterman. This was th~ w~k~nd for privat«n who n~arly stol~ th~ show, particularly i,:, th~ 500cc class wher~. six factory rtd~rs w~r~ out of action du~ to injuries.. Includ~ in .this w~k's list along with Marty Smith and Gaylon Mosi~r, w~r~ Rick Burg~tt. Darr~ll Shultz and Tommy Crofl suff~ring from minor injuri~s incurr~d th~ p~ious w~k in T~xas.
