He had been disqualifIed in his fIrst Handicap heat race when he made contact with Tom Morley and Tom went down. Alan came back in event 10. a Scratch heat race, and won it with no troubll: at all. He was part of the Feature 'Match Race with Bobbi Hunter. Alan started on the SO·yard line facing the wrong way and was not able to over· take the young lady in the three· lap event. Alan did come back strong in the Scratch Main Event for the win. A few weeks ago, there was a special three·man race to pick a new rider out of Division Two to ride in Division One. That winning rider was Dave Miller. He got his shot but was unable to do anything with it because he got caught up in a crash tbat left him sitting on the sidelines. This week he was back on tbe program as a Division Two rider witb his hopes somewhat shattered, but because he had proved bimself to be a good. safe rider, he got to take over the Division One ride of Keith Chrisco who was unable to make tbe restan after a hard crash that left him just a little_ bit dingy. Dave won that beat race. got the transfer out of the semi to the main event and. like all good storieS. this one has a happy ending. Miller won his fIrst ever Division One Handicap Main Event. Dennis Bransford did as well in Division Three. getting his fIrst win at Costa Mesa. Division Two gold went to Mark Detter. which gives him a combined Divisiop Two and Three record of six main event wins. This Friday night will be the fInal appearance of Bruce Penhall, who will be heading back to England after his week's vacation the U.S. ~;:::;;;;:::============......:.= WHY?
