Cycleland hosts National Amateur and Youth . qualifying events By Ann Carr CHICO, CA,JULY 13-15 Mlchletsch uncontested at Mulkey ByActionOz McMINNVILLE. OR,JULY 15 With temperatures in the upper 90's, only a few of the 314 entries collected any of the cool green at the pay-off booth. Tim Mich- 32 letsch. newly sponsored by LOP, rode all three Pro classes to wins in all three events. Tim has been doing very well all season and today was a portent of things to come for anyone who thinks they might have their way with him. Ask Rick Burgett or Mark Gregson: Michletsch is ready to do it and has served notice to all in this area. The first 125cc Pro moto roared off the gate with a few new/old faces in the lineup. Troy Folck, on a Moto-X Fox Honda, wa~ riding his first 125cc Pro class race in years; Michletsch was on his K &< B Yamaha; Rowdy Blasdell was RM 125 mounted, sponsored by Gresham Suzuki, and Jeff Howard was astride his Hillsboro Suzuki. The class had 27 riders going for it. The cream of the crop had to work, it didn't come easy. Dave Didier (Yam), turned in a fine first moto performance and finished third behind Folck and Michletsch. Dave had mechanical problems the second mota and DNF. He's come along very well this season and with a little more luck, he'll be one of the Northwest's best. Jeff Howard, who has adapted to the 125cc ranks very well, is thinking "win" more often than he has in the recent past. Mike McCormick (Yam) got two very good starts for a change and proved to himself that training and practice pays off. Mike finished third overall. Troy Folck (Han), his first time out in the 125cc class, finished second and haa to be thinking he can beat Micblcuch. If he docs, he'll know he's ready for the big-time circuit. The 250cc Pros saw 29 riders go into the first turn funnel. Perry Scott, Columbia River Honda, didn't get a great scratch. but good e.nough to close to third by moto's end. He did the same the second mota to do it for second behind Tim. Chris Washburn. Hillsboro Suzuki, is doing some good riding, placing higher and higher each week. But MichleLSch rode picture smooth. no mistakes, and finished many lengths ahead of the second place rider. Jeff Cropper, M & M Leathers, rode his RM to a second in the first mota and looked particularly good in the uphill off camber section. He didn't show for the second go round. The Opcn class was again down in numbers. Seems as though everyone has moved down to the 125cc or 250cc class. Tim Michletsch and Chris Washburn put on the best performances to finish first and second with John Welch, riding for Yamaha of Salem, coming in third overall. Results . PEE WEE JR: 1.
