Barnett beats the world

LEXINGTON, OH, JULY 22
"I was unsure after my' first moto finish. 1
didn't think 1 could do it. But Evert's was making mistakes, and 1 got by him. Then, the next
thing 1 knew, Glover was in sight. "
Team Suzuki's mad bomber,
Mark Barnett tuned up the wick
on his air-cooled Doug Grant
prepared RA-125-79 and freighted his way past first moto winner Broc
Glover. His ·lead continued to build.
slowly at first and then with a huge
blast as he went on to win the
Valvoline sponsored United States
l25cc Grand Prix at Pete Weidner's
Mid-Ohio Motocross Park.
"I don't know what happened to
me," claimed the reigning Yamaha
125cc National Champ Broc Glover.
"I stayed with him for a while, but I
kept-making mistakes. Every mistake
would cost me a few feet, then I would
just mess up again as I'd try to do
better. Barnett just kept goin/:" away
from me. He was the 'Iron Man'." .
Soon it was difficult for Glover to
remain even in second place as
teammate Bob Hannah closed and
then wheeled past to latch onto second
place again, repeating his first moto
finish.
"I dropped back there for a while
and just couldn't get going,"
continued Glover. "Near the end of
the race I was able to come back again
and was catching Bob, but I said
'what's the use, Bob isn't worth any
points'. "
Mark Barnett smoked his Suzuki
across the finish line to win the second
International moto by nearly 30
seconds over Hannah and Glover. In
the first moto the finishing positions
had been reversed as Glover stole the
holeshot and disappeared while
Hannah and Barnett had to play catch
. up from last places to claim second
and third, respectively. Barnett had
been stuffed into the trackside haybales in the second tum after the stan,.
and Hannah had to leave the line from
the second row behind the 22 Grand
Prix ridei's.
Bob Hannah's presence at the MidOhio Grand Prix was that akin to a
non-persorf. He was there, but yet he
wasn't. He was out on the track racing
an old air cooled OW-37 Yamaha
works bike in his first l25cc race since
he blitzed the Mid-Ohio Grand Prix
last year and left more than a few
riders slightly mad with bent and
broken bikes and loss of valuable GP
points. Hannah had returned to blitz
the race again this year despite the fact
