After Britain's eil Hudson dropped out with mechanical problems during the first leg and with current points leader Swede Hakan Carlqvist laid up with injuries. the Dutch Maico rider tore into the lead chased by Russian KTM rider Viktor Kavioov who eventually took second place Wesr German Rolf Deiffenbach did well throughout and was placed thIrd in the fi rst leg. l There were anxious moments in the first leg when Carlqvist went right over the handlebars of his Husqvarna and landed- fully on his head. but -after doctors examined him. he went out and managed a few laps in the second race but retired feeling groggy. Britons Rob Hooper and Vaughan Semmens, riding Maicos. had their' best rides of the season. both scoring a pair of sevens and nines in both legs. Reigning champion. Russian Gennady Moiseev. had a bad day and could only manage an eighth and fifth place 00 his KTM. which will disappoint his sponsors who already have a strained relationship. with both the Soviet riders. With the points leader out or the race, Neil Hudson was back on form for the second leg and won it with ease. adding another 15 points to his total.
