II The n e w ; ' " performance package from Alphabet features the latest air filter and exhaust system combination tl'!at'gives you the hottest performance tailored to your favorite bike. , impass between Mike and Harry Gxley, the promoter of Costa Mesa .. rid only because he has not put in tkat much time on the small track this nar .. I can't see him winning the ry~tional title in September. lin front of the biggest crowd of the ~ar, Alan Christian came back after ;"linning the Fair Derby and won the Scratch Main Event. In front of that same crowd, Dave Sims walked off the track, refusing to race if the official would not change an earlier call. Dave was disqualified when he cut down on other riders, causing them to lose control and hit the wall. That's what was reponed over the P.A., so don't yell at mel But Dave and many others did not see it that way.. The official did not change his call, and by no means should an official ever change his call. Dave Sims did not ride and by his refusal to ride, by International rules, he can be put out of speedway altogether, set down for the rest of the season, kept off the prOgram for a number of weeks (as many as seen fit), or just bawled out. Only time will tel!. With tbe punish· ment' or penal.ties being about as consistent as a pound of wind·blown feathers, I wouldn't even want to try to make a guess. Some things do have a way of working out for the best. On the bright side, even though Shawn McConnell Wi\S again on the program as a Division Two rider, 'begot to take his shot in Division One when Larry Kosta did Dot show up. You better believe the hottest of all the Division Two riders shlilwed the rest of the top guns the way around the track in the First Division Handicap Main event. Sure, he had the shon yardage marker and Jim Fishback was hot on his tail when ,the checlr.ered flag' came down, but McConnell was there first. I would like to thank all of those people who went out of their way to let the paper and me know that tbey also feel that things could be better in speedway with some consistency. It's also been pointed out to me by th the editorial staff at Cycle News nd various promoters that to ~torialize in the space given to me for race repom is not altogether fair. Fair is what it's all about, so just draw n imaginary line somewhere in my repons and put a heading of 'Editorial" or "Commentary" because I hinlr. that I have left too much out for 00 long because of not wanting to un the spon. The sport is hurting IDd with the'help of you, the paying race fans, we can help get it back on its ·eet. In every race program you get hen you come in the gate, tJ)ere is a ~hone number and a mailing address 'f the promoter. Let them know what ou think is right or working and, most )f all, what changes you think should )e made. Maybe volume will be the redicine for some healthy changes. • THE Featured here is the Suzuki GS 1000 4 into 1 exhaust system.
