This 14-year-ola speedster will surely he a big name on the Pro circuit in a few years. As the reults show, many strong Mini riders were present. Bryan Taylor thrilled the crowd in all of the classes he ran, passing other riders in impossible places. Other standouts were Tim Butler, Angie Scott and Stacey Marek who passed from last to first place in one lOO-yard stretch by outgassing everybody throug!l the whoops on his Rose-Rich Yamaha in tl\e SlIcc Modified Intermediate II and under class: Danny Storbeck took several wins as did Carrol Richardson. "Revin Kevin" Vaught won for the second week in the 250cc Intermediate . class .and Andy Murray and Rodney Wigginton won the 125cc Modified and Stock classes. The weather partially cooperated; althought hot and humid until' the last event the rain opened up on the I05cc classes, shortening the fmal moto. Next week's qualifier is once again at the fine Lake Conroe track and the ,final series race will be at Nacodoches in east Texas. Total series points will qualify the top lOin each class to run at Olr.1ahoma in August for lucrative prizes of motorcycles and support rides from Yamaha. • Results -= l00cx: MOD NOV: 1. A lap later England moved into second and .when the white flag c·ame out Armentrout and England wer~ side by side. They battled to the end with Armentrout winning by only half a bikelength. Erickson pulled a super holeshot in the 250cc final with England in second and Coats way back in ninth. By lap three Coats had charged up to third as Bob Ramer brought his old 200cc Bul into fourth. Ramer fell exiting a tum and two laps later Coats slipped by England for second. But nobody was about to' catch the fast disappearing Erickson. In the 500cc final Erickson again pulled off another super holeshot while "Old Weird Harold" Bradley and Ramer battled over second. Meanwhile, Steve Lortz and AI Urich. fought over fourth. Erickson ran away with the win over Ramer while Lortz moved up to take third on the last lap. John Rife put his Triumph in front of the Open fmal while Ramer and Erickson put on quite a battle for second. It turned into a three-way battle for the lead and on lap three Ramer took over.'Next lap- Erickson pulled up alongside Ramer and th.ey went at it until Erickson edged into the lead. At the end, he took the win by two bikelengths. . Mike Parker parked his flat tracker, hopped on a ,motocrosser and ran away with the 125cc Stadium MX final. At one point he slowed down, as if he was having some kind of shifter or mechanical trouble, and Mike Drysen took over a lead that lasted for less ,than a lap. Parker took it back and won by a large margin. Stewart Alley and Keith Nadrachal rook the Open Stadium ¥X lead while Brad Bendy took the wrong line through the whoops and passed them both to take the leadl Bendy moved out from the field until Alley caught him and their race went down to the flag with Bendy winning. NMA LouisianaTexas regional qualifier at Lake Conroe By Scott Holman CONROE, TX,JUNE2!1-24 Last minute signups swelled the entry list to 295 riders competing in the second TexasLouisiana regional qualifier for the NMA National Championships to be held at Ponca City, Oklahoma in August. The rough sand whoops that characterize the Lake Conroe facility gave the riders a different kind of test as compared to the Wolf Creek track raced in the first qualifier the previous week. The Expert class was especially strong with several new riders joining the group, including Carlo Musso, the young Pro from New Orleans who raced so well in the Superdome last May. . Hailing from Denham Springs, LA "Bullet Ben" Theriot on his Honda World 125 Elsinore won both the stock and modified classes, fighting off a strong challenge from Musso.
