Maloney, Cavness, ~ough top CRC RacIng World MX By Keith Clemons tRABUCO CANYON, CA,JULY I Racing World played host to California Racing Club's latest gathering and gave the entries a shot at getting the area wired before the up'coming $7,500 Tri Race I.R.C. Series. Hot was the word for the day, not just in temperature. but in action. Brian Maloney hustled two 250cc Pro wins on his ESC Honda to take an unchallenged first overall. But it wasn't all smooth sailing'for Maloney. In the first moto Greg Waldrup led the pack for eight laps but for unknown reasons pulled to the side of the track in the ninth and quit the race. Maloney took over the lead with David Behlings coming up to catcb second place. When Maloney fell. Behlings took a shot at stealing first but Maloney was quick to recover and held his position. From. there on home Maloney held the. front to win. Behlings, however. took a short powder in the dust and ended up losing his position - though he was able to get back up still in second his front brake jammed and had to be kicked loose which let Vanya Samarin pulled the option on his position. Samarin finished second with Behlings third. Next time around Tim Chriswell holeshot but Behlings pulled a lead on him before the finish of the first lap. Behlings held the lead for two laps but fell, letting Maloney into the front. Third place Kevin McNeal clipped Behlings in the turn and made baste to capture second. Behlings got back into the race in third where he finished. First overall went to Maloney, second to McNeai and third to Behlings. Open Pro Scott Cavness took two strong wins in tbe Open Pro race. Ricb Bland who finished twice in second was holding a close dicing contest with the Anaheim Suzuki·sponsored Cavness for a few laps in the first moto. but Bland blew 'out on a berm .and was only able to pick it up in time to keep his second place position away from Carney Briggs who finished third. Curtis Rough rode his Kawasaki through two winning 125cc Pro motas for top pay in that race. Richard Barron finished second both times around for second overall. . Results : • e- OPEN PRo: 1..
