Emenon fell back to fifth • Warcl moved into IIeCOnd and Gibeon ~ Locey for third. Halfway through the moto Myenc:ough had built up a cominanding lead and Gibson hac! taken second away from Ward. The first four positions reaminec! unchanged for the rest of the race with fifth going to Yamaha rider Jim Holley and Ron Turner worlted hiI way up from a bad start to finish sixth. Gib$On and Myencough batded for the lead at the ltart of the second IDOlIO with Gibson leading at the eud oi lap one. Myencough was very dow behind and Glover held third whik Ward was running in fourth. Roger Hendy had his Suzuki in fifth abead of Locey and Yamaha rider Gary Denton. On the IIeCOnd lap Gibson slipped back to third, allowing MYeBCough into the lead and Glovei' to move into IIeCOnd. Locey pUled Hensly on the third lap while Denton faded back. Myencough was just dancing his bike aC1'Ol$ the whoopl and building up a good lead over Glover who in tum was well ahead 01 the Gibson and Ward battle. Ward was trying every line on the track attempting to pass Gibson and the twe riders began to c101e on Glover. With one lap to go Ward paued Gibson OD the doWnhill. With the checkered flag out, Myenc:ough cruised aC1'Ol$ the finish line well in front. Behind hina came the charging trio of Glover, Ward and Gibson. Ward and Gibson had caugh~ the Yamaha rider and the three all tried different last rum Iina which made the finish very exciting for the flagman as' he stepped back to avoid the flash of yellow, green and red. Glover just stayed ahead of Ward and Gibson had to settle for fourth. Overall MyeI'lCOUgh was the winner with second going to Ward and Gibsoti taking home the third place money. Locey ended a fme day of riding in fourth and Ron Turner finished fifth, the only rider to contest all ~ classes. Then to add further drama to the day, a protest was filed apins Myerscough's engine, claiming It w over the displacement limit. Whi promoter Don Rake was attending t the engine teardown, his prerty Pam and announcer Chip Van Nanea gave 'Out the awards for the sportsmaa races. First overall in tbe 125c( Intermediate class was Jeff Stanford OIl a Yamaha. Second went to Suzuki rider Eric Baker and third to Glen Cave on board a Kawasaki. Larry Coleman rode his Husky 125 to a 'Well deserved victory in the Junior class ahead of Honda·mounted Steve Redding and Jay Emerson on a Yamaha. Then tbe IUlpenIe ended as the engine was miked by calipers supplied by the Yamaha team and tbe calculations were made and Myenc:ougb was ruled legal and the winner. As he picked up his p' money be said, ''I'm glad they tore down $0 there'll be no question.
